I actually agree with you on your criticisms, I'm just going through the remastered version as it sounds vastly improved that I couldn't help but find more enjoyment out of it than previously.

That would be Trance. You could try DJ Splash. I primarily listen to singles when it comes to trance but I'm trying to listen to more full albums. You could try Cantrip or if you want something more laid back/uplifting, there's Thirty. aliensamadhi is pretty well versed in the world of trance and electronic music, he may be able to give you some recommendations as well.
