Rating philosophy
My ratings capture the degree to which an album increases dopamine levels in my nucleus accumbens. I only rate albums that I own.
Recommendations welcome
I typically enjoy free improvisation, shifting and asymmetrical time signatures, stop-start song structures, angular rhythmic structures, soft-loud dynamic changes, staccato rhythms, extensive vamping, prepared instruments, non-standard tunings, extended techniques, overblowing techniques, live electronic effects on traditional instruments, atmospheric reverby guitar delay, feedback, distortion, low pitched and thick rumbling bass, fast tempo broken drum beats, double kick drum blast beats, chops on an offbeat, twangy vocals, emotionally intense quavering, hushed whispers, leftist political lyrics, live studio recordings without overdubs, and dub-styled studio manipulations of recordings. Above all else, I enjoy hearing interactive interplay among musicians.
