glad you liking it! that sounds good, i'm interested so i'll listen to it soon. some days ago i was diggin DJ Jeffee - Jungle Spliff and it was an awesome listen, it's basically a Jungle mix with some Reggae samples and it really works, also the length is 1hr 30min, sounds too long but it's very consistent and surprsingly fresh (it never gets repetitive) so i highly recommend it. idk about that Gachet mix, i'll definetly give it a listen. yeah, Mingus is a genius, he has some great gems and i still need to dig his discography. cool that you loving that album, that's my favorite Mingus record.

listened to Jungle Sounds and i liked it, but i think Jungle Spiff holds better, it has a lot of bangers and overall more fun, you will like it a lot, i swear :). Mingus totally deserves the praise it gets, and that's why he is always talked, he's got amazing ideas executed perfectly in his albums (well the ones i heard) and still sounds so fresh and unique to this day. BSATSL was the first jazz album i ever listened to and it was in my top 10 for a long long time. it isn't anymore but still love it tho. Actually Braxton is my favorite jazz artist, don't know if you listened to him already.

Yeah, and Braxton compositions are very dense and sometimes it's hard to get into, it can be abstract for the most part or something that demands you full attention on the music to fully appreciate it, but he generally goes for the typical free jazz loudness with his shaped and well achieved ideas mostly remarkable in the avant-garde/free jazz scene.

it's just a matter of taste, i think. of course the more you know about the music you are listening to, the more you'll enjoy it probably, but it's not a necessary thing at all. with a little of basic terminology is enough imo it's not a challenge for me anymore because i'm already used to avant-garde / weird thing, but not all of the weird music is equally great you know, i'm not of those that overrate all the obscure shit for trying to look 'cool'.

i'm glad you liked those Braxton records! Definetly, the records that he plays with other jazz musicians, specially the live ones are very great and with some really interesting stuff, i see you listened to Köln and Santa Cruz, those are absolutely amazing and mindblowing, whenever i come back to them i always discover something good out of it, and also it surprises me how consistent and powerful it is, despite both albums being long, it NEVER gets boring to relisten. you still have to dig more! well me too, i still didn't listened to ALL of him, i'm glad his catalog is really huge.

it seems that in his avant-garde compositions he take these mathematical bases, he uses it and includes some smart and subtle improvisations on it, making it even more complex but also really enjoyable to listen to and with a high re listen value, specially because of how cryptic they are.

also i know you still digging Braxton's stuff, but i would recommend you to check out Anthony Davis, specially this album Lady of the Mirrors : He's a piano player and he is in the same line as Braxton compositions, but he also includes some modern classical elements on it making it super unique.
that sounds good, i'm interested so i'll listen to it soon.
