my favorite record is Person Pitch by Panda Bear. it's my favorite because it gives me greater comfort than any other album could ever offer. it's a warm blanket for my mind and soul; however weary, my spirit is uplifted when i hear it.

Not sure if you've read my review of Moonlight but I hope that you understand that I do like the movie, but I just don't think that it's as great as RYM is proclaiming it to be. Here's my reply to your last comment. And if you're not interested in reading my full review (it's pretty lengthy) I gave it a 3.5-star rating so I hope you understand that my comments weren't out of any backlash against the movie or anything despite my bitterness because La La Land didn't win haha.

"@geogadd1 I wrote my "(outside of the being black and gay)" too vaguely and I apologize for that because it led to a misinterpretation of my meaning. I was actually saying that my family actually has taken in someone like Chiron who was facing similar problems as he did. He had an abusive father and a mother who was a prostitute that was also taking drugs. But he isn't black nor gay. He now does talk with his real mother, but he calls my mother his real mom. The only reason I was bringing this up was because Theresa was a huge influence to Chiron and outside of one thank you when she was folding his blankets, Chiron didn't show her affection. Given his quiet nature, that is understandable, but the lack of appreciation is what bothers me.

So with that clarified, I suppose you're right, we shouldn't *expect* Chiron to become a good person growing up with the shitty life that he had. But can I not criticize a film for how they fast they made Chiron go from a sympathetic quiet, smart, and likable kid to a dumb ass criminal? He literally walks into a school and wacks a big ass dude with a chair. And when the guidance counselors offer him help, he doesn't talk because he's too troubled to say anything. And next thing we know, he's trappin'. The change was so sudden, with a lack of explanation and it aggravated me to no end because of how judgemental Chiron was to Juan about him being a drug dealer.

I'm fine with it not necessarily being a happy film. Often times movies are better when it isn't Hollywooded up and it offers us the harsh reality, it's the how it happens of the movie that bothers me. In my review, I said if the movie was just the third act, I'd give the movie a 5/5. The beginning was good too. I just didn't like the middle and how they made it all come to fruition."

Sorry for the paragraphs but I was enjoying the discussion. Hope that you were too. Also, happy to meet another Carly Rae and David Bowie lover. Funny how many of those types that I've found on RYM haha. Friended you!

I guess that's fair. Although I welcomed the debate. I'll have to rewatch the movie one day and see if I still feel the same way. Maybe I did miss something. Still, it is rather petty this argument isn't it? You're trying to defend a movie that you loved and I'm arguing why I only really liked it.

Also, our tastes in movies might not as different as you make it seem. We appear to have a few similar favorites.

Yes indeed! I used to be super into the American team sports when I was younger, but that's all kinda fallen by the wayside as I've gotten older - I'm getting old and I don't have time nor the mental/physical energy to keep up with all these trades and who's playing for who now and blah blah blah. Not knocking people who DO still follow them, of course; I'm just speaking strictly for myself. I find it much easier to keep track of the individuals in tennis than I do entire teams, plus I just plain like tennis better than everything else anyway, lol :)

In terms of music and movies, I'm not too hung up on whether or not I have similar tastes with my friends on here or not, especially because life would be pretty boring if we all liked the exact same things. I throw up reviews when I feel compelled and I mainly just appreciate honest appraisals, which is what I try to do every time. I can think something is five stars and you might think it's worth one; this obviously doesn't mean I'm right and you're wrong, or vice versa. It's just an opinion, after all :)

    But, tennis tho

Roger fucking Federer, man. lmao. Obviously I've been watching him for a long time and I have some thoughts on him...I kinda touched on this a little bit in the blog I wrote and I've thought about posting similar thoughts in the message board thread, but you know what it is about him more than anything? I really don't and have never comprehended the fawning he inspires. I always feel like I'm not a member of the cool kids club whenever I hear people just absolutely GUSHING over how beautiful his style is, how he moves so effortlessly and angelically, etc. I'm not talking about his accomplishments - those are pretty undeniable at this point. I'm literally referring to his playing style. I like watching him play, especially now that I've removed the stick from my ass as I've gotten older and stopped disliking him for even dumber reasons, lol, but I've just never understood what it is about him that causes people to lose their fucking minds, or how his playing inspired David Foster Wallace to write garbage like "Roger Federer as Religious Experience" - a very incendiary piece on a lot of levels, least of all how it dismissed Rafa as nothing more than a muscular brute. I feel like I've seen Rafa pulling off incredible shots that owe just as much to his beautiful movement as they do to his technique (you need only go rewatch some of the highlights from his recent beatdown of Wawrinka at RG to see proof of that), and while they may not be as aesthetically pleasing as (I guess) Roger's best shots are, I feel like I've seen jaw-dropping stuff from each member of the Big Four in roughly equal measures at this point. But no one seems to inspire such fanaticism the way that Roger does. I just don't get it.

If that all makes me sound like a bitter ass hater, I'm really, *really* not trying to be. I've said this both to you and on the thread itself at this point, and it bears repeating once more: my favorite player has brought me a lifetime of joy, much, MUCH more than I ever imagined when I wasn't sure if he would ever be able to be considered more than just a clay-court specialist. He's spoiled me tremendously. I've just always kinda been on the outside looking in when it comes to the Cult of Federer. I like him, I enjoy watching him play, he's almost certainly the best (male) tennis player ever, and he seems like a cool dude, but I can't get on board with likening his game to a religious experience and all that. lol
