Never get so attached to a poem you forget truth that lacks lyricism -- Joanna Newsom
Did you know the same filmmaker, F. W. Murnau, invented both the horror and melodrama genres? Which explains why most horror films are melodramatic and most melodramas are horrible.

I think The One I Love is a pretty good song, and back when I was much angstier I thought it was amazing, but I'm really bothered by the fact that on 3 songs in the second half of Document, Stipe prominently features the word 'fire' in his vocals, and it never sounds good...
I know Around the Sun by reputation, though I haven't heard it. I guess people just hear something in Automatic for the People that we don't. I can hear something there, and I really like the song Nightswimming (the music verges on sappy but the lyrics have this great bitterness to them and I can totally relate to it) but yeah most of it is really boring.
I don't think it's that surprising their recent stuff isn't very good; they've been around for almost 3 decades now, all bands and artists are usually out of it by then.
And I finally started enjoying Ulysses! Last hundred pages have been awesome, I think I was just in the wrong frame of mind before.
