You know Dan Kessler writes pretty much all their songs? He starts all of them. Paul would be easy to blame cause he's a dick to his fans and dating Helena Christensen.
Kessler always said he never looks back, so comparing Obstacle 1 to Barricade probably never crosses his mind. Now with Carlos D out of the band, there's no way they're gonna rebound.
In response to your misunderstanding of my review, the falsetto was the best part of that song, which in turn, was the best song on an otherwise lackluster album. I thought that they were done by Hernan, but I was wrong.
ASP are very well produced, sure. But not only did I not make a single reference to the production, being well-produced is no excuse for writing uninteresting, trite music. Every time I used to listen to it, I'd either switch to their 2nd album or listen to a better deathcore band i.e. After the Burial, possibly even AGATG's latest one, Portals.
Or, even better, I pull my head out of my arse and listen to some proper death metal.
Internet decorum does still exist (and should, to be taken seriously and argued with a modicum of respect) but I guess we're over that hurdle now.
Anyway, I remember loving TPOE for ages but after not listening to it for quite some time and then re-listening to it, I realised how short a lifespan it has after listening to proper death metal, it really can't compare.
I'm not accusing you of anything, but having a list promoting a lot of not particularly exciting deathcore bands kind of suggests you are a fan of the genre.
"Deathcore is basically the love-child of all things metal. " - These are your words. Nothing wrong with that... except for the fact that deathcore is literally redundant, there is NO point for it to exist and what's more, if every single deathcore band on the planet replaced the -core with death metal, they would be twice as good, even if they would mostly end-up being BruTech death metal with boredom turned up to 11.
Commercial success should only follow quality music. Gearing an entire band's sound/marketing/image towards profit turns it into generic 'popular' music which deathcore is.
They certainly aren't a breath of fresh air, either. What exactly do they bring to the table? They take a thoroughly exhausted genre and play it perfectly. There's no point in being proud in taking a piece of shit and covering it with succulent BBQ sauce.
And finally, you certainly have great taste in music outside of the metal genre, kudos. But really, a couple of years from now deathcore will probably be just another fad that certain record companies will have moved on from rabidly promoting as 'brutal' or 'technical' death metal. This statement is by no means intended to be an insult of your taste or intelligence, but in the end, it's deathcore, who gives a fuck?
