Ratings are not meant to be "objective" for me. They primarily refer to the importance the album has to me, not necessarily to the quality. Still both are usually related. In case of doubt, read my comments.

5 Very fine album and of some personal importance
4.5 Very fine album.
4.0 An album with flaws that don't matter.
3.5 There is many songs I really like. But also some I don't. Or the album is currently not of particular importance to me.
3.0 Good, but it lacks the punch to grab my attention.
2.5 Mediocre in all regards. Under special circumstance might be enjoyable for me. Expectations have not been fulfilled.
2.0 Music I don't like. But the artist has usually respect from me or the (failed) attempt is appreciated.
1.5 - 0 I usually don't rate that. Why the heck should I bother about bad music?

Sometimes the cover alone may lead to 5 stars. Not really taking the music into account.
