They're deceptively good alright. The 1st time I heard them ('Daddy's Got a Tail') my jaw almost hit the floor. Definitely a 'best kept secret' (ie highly underrated) kind of band.
You're right, after 30 years trying to be something different one can make some less good album, or just being tired. Buzz and Dale are almost humans after all.
Yeah, he's amazing. I've seen all his stuff, and I love pretty much everything he's done. The only films he's made that could even come close to being called misfires are Pusher II and Fear X, and those still aren't bad by any means.
