I can definitely recommend The Virgin Spring which I think is a better rendition of the medieval story. It's kind of "blunt" too, but I think its mood is so dark and strange that it complicates the situation more.

English is native, Japanese at something like a high intermediate level

I took French and Spanish in high school for two and one year respectively, so I know a lot of vocabulary and can often get the gist of reading simple sentences, but I can't speak them for the life of me.

I know the Cyrillic alphabet but no grammar, vocabulary, or anything of the languages that use it.

Oh nice. A part of me has always wanted to learn Italian just to be able to read Dante's Divine Comedy in its original text. And French would in all honesty probably be the most helpful language for me in watching films I want to that don't have subtitles.

But Japanese offers more anime and I like it more in general.

i cant remember tbh; i deleted like 99% of all the albums i had downloaded from that scene back in 2013 so i dont know if any of those sources still exist. gl finding it tho
