Title
What can I say about Iron Maiden - Book Of Souls except I am absolutely in love with this album. After about 10 full listens I feel as if it is competition for other great Maiden albums like Powerslave, Seventh Son and Piece Of Mind.

My favorite songs have to be the 2 epic songs. The Red and Black is incredible and the riffs give me an orgasm. Also I sing along every time I hear this song. The floating melodies are just killer. The closer track Empire Of The Clouds is more melodic with Bruce Dickinson playing the Piano for the first time. Wow what an epically great song it is. I really love the long instrumental section in the middle with it's killer riffs, melodies and solo's. The story the song tells is quite fantastic also. Being 18 minutes does not detract from it at all and it does not feel over long or cumbersome.

The intro to Book Of Souls accoustic guitars sets you up to feel the power of the proggy riffs when they hit. The floating melodies are also very strong on Book Of Souls. I really want to Up the Irons during the chorus. The Book Of Souls chorus is the best on the album and I love the killer dark proggy riffs. Book of Souls sits at third in the order of songs I love from Book Of Souls.

The three songs that feel like classic Iron Maiden songs from the 80's are my next favorites from Book Of Souls. The Opener If Eternity Should Fail is a great way too open the album. My only complaint is the dark poem at the end of the song is unnecessary but it really does not bother me. I like Death or Glory and Shadows Of The Valley even more both sound like the of Iron Maiden when they were rockin killer NWOBHM. Classic Iron Maiden Riffs and killer solo's.

The emotional and touching tribute to Robin Williams, Tears Of A clown is the next song I really like. It a classy thing for Iron Maiden to do. It is the shortest track on the album and I feel like it will probably get some air play.

The Man of Sorrows is almost a Power Ballad but has this really cool dark sound to it. On first listen it was actually the song I enjoyed the most but then after other listens to Book Of Souls I really began to dig the above songs even more.

When the River Runs Deep is the fastest song on the album and is classically Iron Maiden all the way. The Great Unknown is also a similar style but not nearly as heavy as River Runs Deep and It has this great introspective feel to it and I really love the lyrics. Lyrically The Great Unknown is also strong and riff wise it is very solid. I love the beginning of The Great Unknown. Even though these songs are down on my list of favorites from The Book Of Souls but they are very good.

Speed Of Light is the first single released from the album and it is also the worst song on the album. I would not quite call it a filler track but when I listen to it I just do not really feel it or get the chills the rest of the album gives me.

From beginning to finish Book Of Souls engages me and I find myself humming the melodies from it all day, which then makes me crave another listen. I am listening to it 1-2 times a day every day since Book Of Souls was released. In fact Amorphis also just released a great album themselves but it is loosing out to the power of Book Of Souls. It is an amazing accomplishment that a band can release such an amazing work of art nearly 40 years into their career.

Up the Irons, Iron Maiden because I did not expect you to blow me away yet that is exactly what you did. 5/5

I really love music and Metal so If I rate anything under a 3.5 it really does suck. Albums I enjoy are usually rated 4.0 and anything higher is something I love. 3.5 is for I enjoyed it but wont listen to it much.

I am not here to be super critical. I am a fan and a music lover and good stuff gets rated how much I enjoyed it. Bands should be rewarded for their efforts not over criticized by someone who cant go out and do what they can themselves.

Rating system
5.0 Perfect
4.5 Excellent
4.0 Good
3.5 Decent
3.0 Boring
.5 - 2.5 Varying levels of crap

It is only 8 minutes long, but here is some good death metal for you from 2017.

Also, Toxic End reminds me of the Distillator debut album. Balls to the wall speedy thrash. =) Probably around a 4.25 from me. I am on the fence on which way to go.

That's good...I figured you would like it much better than Persefone. I have been listening to Persefone since I started here. I even got a response from the band on RYM.

    Hello!!

This is message for an answer for Butterflyman. This is not quite a regular thing that a band member answers a review from anyone, but in this case I would like to explain him about something he demands: Why aren't butterflies on the cover?

First of all, it is great for us to know that someone really realizes about important things for us such as the butterflies appeared on "Truth Inside the Shades" and "Core" covers. Maybe some of you know that butterflies represent soul in a lot of different cultures. All these thematics are really important for band members in Persefone. So, the fact that there are no butterflies on this cover is because of the main theme of the album: Samurai. For them, the representation of the soul was their own sword. Because of that, it has no sense of putting butterflies on the cover since soul is already represented by the sword held by the samurai.

Anyway, I would like to thank you your kind words. We do really apreciate them...

    All the best,

    Miguel Espinosa

I talked to Ra's Dawn on facebook briefly because I wanted to find out who the female vocalist was on the one song. I found out and told the band I was surprised by the thrash and heavy metal riffing when they had never done that before on their albums. I hear a touch of death metal and there of course is the doom on the last track, too, I mentioned to them. They said their sound had to evolve naturally and they did not want to limit themselves when doing this album. I usually do not like heavy riffing in prog metal, but it works great for me on this latest Ra's Dawn. =)
