I think pop can sometimes be the MOST creative, or at least most spontaneous or shocking or bizarre or whatever, music, because it can be so geared towards maximising hooks it completely ignores considerations like structure or taste, and sometimes everything is just thrown at the wall in the search for A Hit. I mean that's not how MOST pop plays out but you still get things like Stupid Hoe and Baby I slipping thru the cracks. But I definitely have completely lost interest in Tinashe.

Yeah basically everything tagged as "art pop" on rym this decade is dreadful.

I see you enjoyed L'étoile thoracique. I thought the orchestration was magnificent and it's my favorite pop album of the year. I've been trying to get the hype going ever since Flyingwill pointed it out haha.

I actually bought both (vinyl and cd) from her bandcamp, packaging is really beautiful as well. The first album comes in a book style cd case with lyrics and art, the LP just with the lyrics but they're both worth owning! L'étoile is quickly becoming my most listened to album from 2016, there's barely a dip in quality throughout IMO. I may just bump it up to a 5 at some point.

I'm not sure why I haven't heard that album. especially as one of my friends dad's was in that band and it was his record collection I first went through and heard a lot of amazing things for the first time. Better than the drones? I could see it musically but as much as I love rob younger, he has nothing on Gareth as a songwriter. there's only a few aussie songwriters that are in the same ballpark as him.
