Sad to see that Voyager release you were so excited about let you down a bit :(
I actually agree, though: I still need to give it at least two more listens before I can pass full judgement, but so far it's up there with The Meaning of I as their weakest to date. Their debut is my favorite, though, because it has the most power metal elements, lol! This new one, though, I like some of the melodies and quieter moments, but I find the djent riffs at times to be too much and they go on too long and drag the songs down for me. I definitely can't get into it as much as I can most of their albums.
Agreed! I tried to get into to Headspace's debut album 3 or 4 times before. Coincidentally, I decided to call it quits and gave them my ultimate rating this Wednesday. In terms of prog metal, the release is pretty boring. It really lacks of any guitar punch and memorable riffs. At the same time, there are not enough memorable refrains and melodies. Okay, the musicianship is flawless, but I music is about SONGS after all. I wouldn't say that I dislike Wilson, though. He's a bit of an acquired taste, but he definitely sounds very original and recognisable alongside many lackluster prog singers. Maybe my problem is that I listened to Headspace right after Threshold's latest two ones (a successful comeback for Damian!). These Americans don't are not quite yet up to par as compared to the legendary Englishmen of prog metal =)
