oh rym. rym do you remember begging your father to install kazaa on your family computer so you could download hybrid theory at 128kbps and burn it to a cd-r for summer roadtrips. vinyl jackets bursting with glistening plastic wheels. i've seen things. 60 dollar special edition boris/michio kurihara vinyl at an unnamed record store in iowa city. a gerogerigegege bootleg dreaming alone in its blog cocoon like a mad angel unfurling its neon hair across mt fuji. all these mediafire links will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. time to rate

Hello buddy. Just saw your reviews about GAS releases and that made me laugh, honestly but, at the same time, made me wonder about your opinion and I really wanted to talk about it a little bit with you. It's strange seeing how you talk so vaguely about one of the most meticulous minimalist records and artists of all time. And, by judging your other reviews here, it's strange to see that you really hate those albums, even when you like some minimalist techno/ambient artists too.
Calling the whole GAS catalog as just "extremely boring" it's pretty bland overall, because his songs have a lot of movement, loop points and droning motifs. I like to call this kind of music as "textural music": it's music made to evoke a certain atmosphere by executing free experiments over textures. On Gas, it's exactly this: it's textural, naturally lo-fi and not deliberately minimalist. Just listen to Königsforst, for example: that's his most eclectic album and, if you listen closely, you can notice how many sampling layers have and the classical drones isn't the same "two-notes" all the time as a lot of ambient techno artists are, like bvdub; you can feel the sampling looping points going around and around, having movements through stereo depths, droning structures and different motifs the whole record. The beats and dubby bass are just there to make the song more hypnotic, not just to make it dance-y or rhythmable. On "Königsforst 2" even have some Mbira and guitar loops in the end.
I’m not here to bash you, be arrogant or force you to like those recordings; if you don’t enjoy, great. But, since I'm a minimalist fan, I really want to understand your opinions about his recordings. Have a nice day, bud!
