Fine purveyor of progressive rock, doom metal, harsh noise and music in general. My best friend hates my music taste and so do I. I'm always open to recommendations.
I also write my reviews from a slightly right-libertarian perspective, so don't expect any bullshit about "misogyny, transphobia etc.", for I prefer to review the music as it stands on its own.

I wouldn’t really say I have a vendetta against any of those directors - even if I’m not a fan of their work, I always approach their latest films hoping to find new insights into their cinema. You’d be right though in guessing that a part of my problem with those particular directors lies in how they approach pastiche however in each case there’s also other things about them that bother me.
In the case of Tarantino’s filmography, I’d rather watch the films he’s referencing than the films themselves, which don’t seem to offer any particular insights through their organization or execution of homages other than perhaps a ritualistic fetishization of cinema. The Coen Brothers’ reliance on pastiche is also irksome for me to watch although I’m equally troubled by a condescension I perceive in their direction, mostly evident through their handling of caricatures. I feel as if both Tarantino and the Coens seem to express a kind of reductionist apathy to both film history and world history which has remained largely consistent throughout their careers. Lastly, I’ve only actually seen a few Iñárritu films - his last two, Revenant and Birdman, and his earlier film, 21 Grams. Each of them seem like white elephant art to me though, often very self-conscious about their own importance and constantly fixated on their characters’ misery. It’s not simply his reliance on other filmmakers, Tarkovsky, Ophuls, etc., but his own misguided conflation with great art and suffering that I find disagreeable in his films. I could go into further detail about these directors but I think this largely summarizes my issues with them - hope I don’t come off as elitist, lol, there’s plenty of contemporaneous filmmakers whom I find favorable to those four but to each taste their own.
I saw the film back when it first premiered and wrote up a similar review around that time. I just noticed though that I never posted anything about it here so I figured I'd revise my original review and post it now.
