I'm just a person, who really enjoys music and always tries to keep reviewing a positive experience rather than shitting on everything.
Therefore, I mostly choose records I'll probably enjoy and thus use a positive rating system.

I just recently switched to the positive rating system, which I like better than the normal one as I can better distinguish between the albums I really love and thus don't rate most albums in the range from from 4-5 stars anymore. To distinguish in a finer way, I started using my own rating system from 0-100% and transfered it to the stars system. This means, that each star rating can be weak, normal or strong and the difference between a weak and strong 4, e.g. is quite substantial, so this has to be kept in mind, when looking at the ratings. The real rating from 0.0-10.0 is in the tag description and represents my feelings about the album better than the star ratings. The higher the rating, the more difficult it is to get a better rating. So a 9.9 is still a huge step from a 9.6 for example.

I'm currently re-rating my collection according to the new rating system, so every rating without a tag is an old one and will be updated eventually.

Rating system:

Songs are rated from 1-10 with 0.5 steps. Album rating is calculated from the song ratings considering things like song length, whether they are intros, interludes, etc. and some gut feeling.

9.6-10/10 = 5/5:
Essential album. There are consistently amazing moments, may be very innovative, resonates deeply with me. Every song has something unique and stands out in its own way. Contains magnificent creativity, which I can only marvel at. Sometimes, there is a bias like nostalgia or for a particular style of music I have a thing for, which promotes an album to the top. These are all-time favorites and otherworldly listening experiences.

8.6-9.5/10 = 4.5/5:
Exceptional album. Feels almost perfect, but something is missing to be considered essential. There may be a few weaker songs and some flawless ones or each song has its own little flaws, but is consistently amazing. There is a considerable amount of unique and memorable elements. Still remarkably creative through and through and highly appreciated. Listening to it is always an extraordinary experience.

7.6-8.5/10 = 4/5:
Excellent album. Very high quality is to be found here. Each song captivates me and is fairly creative. May have some unique things or other aspects, which stand out, although not that many. Engages me completely. More than love listening to it.

6.6-7.5/10 = 3.5/5:
Superb album. Does something new and exciting or does a particular style very well with much creativity. I can connect with it on a deeper level and it affects me considerably. Always a wonderful listening experience.

5.6-6.5/10 = 3/5:
Great album. Quite original and evocative. Has some elements I really love with a really fresh sound. It has everything I love about a particular style and stimulates my imagination. Love listening to it.

4.6-5.5/10 = 2.5/5:
Good album. Thouroughly well done and engaging. Flaws aren't as prominent anymore. Can contain a few really creative and unique elements or has a style I really enjoy. Like listening to it.

3.6-5.5/10 = 2/5:
Decent album. Is a fun listen and has some good things on it. Mostly appealing, but may often be still a bit too standard or boring though. Would listen to it from time to time.

2.6-3.5/10 = 1.5/5:
Enjoyable. There is something about it, I enjoy. Does have flaws and can sometimes be uninteresting, but overall makes up for it through enough good passages. Could listen to it more than once.

1.6-2.5/10 = 1/5:
Barely enjoyable. It's not too bad, but it's just too uninteresting. Nothing really happens and I could use my time listening to more exciting music. At least there is something I sometimes enjoy about it.

0-1.5/10 = 0.5/5:
Definitely not for me. May be too unoriginal, annoying or it's just not my style. Everything I don't like is listed here.

There have been some good metal albums so far in 2017, if you're looking for great death metal the latest releases from Lantern and Immolation are superb. Power Trip's NIghtmare Logic is some great thrash, and Striker's self-titled is excellent throwback heavy metal.

Check your recomendations, you got some :) also, have you heard about Earthen Grave? pretty sick doom metal ala old Sabbath. this and Acid Bath, I think you will like it. I will give Mercyful Fate another shot, I miss good old heavy metal today :)
