I like instrumental music and my taste in singers is erratic and oddly specific, consequently, some vocals can diminish or ruin my opinion of an artist or group.
The Extensive (not exhaustive) list:
[List486215].
Additionally, most Metal singers (especially the ones that scream) and most users of autotune.
The main explanation why I like the singers I like is a mix of nostalgia, familiarity and interesting/relatable lyrics (yes, I am a guy that listens to lyrics, which is why I do not like a lot of old and contemporary pop)
Another aspect I adore in music is sheer energy, which explains my soft spot for bands like The Killers and what others would call "by the numbers" post-rock acts like Maybeshewill and I/O. In contrast, I am also fond of downtempo and ambient-influenced records, e.g. Koan, Bliss, The Album Leaf and Tycho.
Nostalgia is a big factor in my ratings, because I have no intention to take the rating of films (and especially music) objective, this will never change. This works in opposite to most films and music other people feel nostalgic for, I cannot recreate that feeling and as a result rate it as I feel it; which leads to hypocritical ratings.
Currently watching a lot of old films due to my course of film history and aesthetics. Some of them in the film museum 'Cinema Zuid', an institution that provides good quality and full length versions and additional live piano for silent films. All the ones I have seen there are tagged with 'Cinema Zuid 15-16'. As I am planning to take a master in Film studies and visual culture, the tag 'Cinema Zuid' 16-17 (Damn, those numbers make me feel old) did come into existence last september.

I knew you have to be Francophone. :D
Well, just wait until you see everywhere that handheld/shaky camera quickly zooming in and out that I've been seeing more and more often (even in TV sitcoms).
