I can't believe you didn't like it! Then again, actually I can since you don't seem to fond of free jazz. The guy who compares it to Lightning Bolt seems spot on, it's like them vs. Ornette Coleman except more rockin'! As for the Flying Lotus, I've listened to parts of it. Reckon I'll get to the rest soon. See you on Match Cut too; I'm posting there again.
I honestly can't believe you can listen to the first few minutes of IV and call the album completely "aimless", but then again that's where the avant-garde nature of it comes in. For me, I don't really need a guiding hand when I'm listening to music because I'm able to "feel" music that I really appreciate and for Throats I just do. In fact, I'm tempted to upgrade it half a star, but we will see. Music for me is just too subjective and personal to really argue any given album's merits. That's why I'm more a fan of discussing how I feel when I listen to an album or the imagery it evokes.
By the way, check out that Kreng album I rated a while back. I first heard it a few months ago and think it's one of the key albums of the last decade. If you like jazzy noir stuff you'll love it. The album truly becomes the equivalent of a terrible nightmare after a while, or at least the perfect soundtrack to driving through a storm in the night.
Actually, most albums I dislike I feel for the most part it's because they are boring. Like the new Phosphorescent, I nearly said "what the fuck" out loud to myself just because I didn't know a band that could produce something so texturally dense as Pride could produce something so boring and samey as their new album.
I actually just bumped it up a 1/2 because it has been my primary listen - I was going to say, I was astonished to find out you were only mildly pleased with the album. But yeah, the album is incredible and I'm seeing him on the 9th; I think it could be one of my favorites eventually, even more so than it already is.
