Snake
Genre
Snake is a style of action game where the player aims to collect points to grow the snake's tail while avoiding collision with itself, walls, or sometimes other snakes. Single-player instances of the genre tend to be built around eating and growing, ending when the player dies due to collision, or wins the game by growing to the size of the playable area. Multi-player snake games, on the other hand, are typically based around trying to get the other player to collide into your body to defeat them. The genre originated with Barricade (1976) and would be spread through clones and inspiration over the next decades. Later, popularity would again boom with the Nokia's Snake (1998) being preinstalled onto Nokia phones. In more recent times, Slither.io (2016) revitalized the genre again by combining it with the growing trend of ".io" games like Agar.io (2015).
