MUD

Genre
Originated from the first true game of the genre, Multi User Dungeon (AKA British Legends), the term MUD refers to games consisted of a real-time virtual world based in multiplayer functionality. Common RPG elements such as exploration, character customization, quests functionality and stats and skills increment system are the base of MUDs gameplay, with interactive fiction and hack and slash elements also present in some examples. MUDs are usually text-based, with real time actions being executed as the player types commands in the game interface. Because of the online multiplayer functionality, interaction between the other players is an important factor present in the gameplay and setting of such games.
