I love/hate this game so much, but I cannot recommend it enough. A visual style that only compounds its difficult gameplay in the best of ways. The more layers you pull up, the more you find and all of them compliment each other perfectly. A nuanced story and soundtrack make this the only shump that could get its hooks into me and oh boy, did they ever sink deep. It was beyond difficult for me as I"m a newcomer to the shump genre, sending hours and hours trying to overcome certain sections. As hard as this game was for me, I never once lost my appreciation for what it was trying to accomplish. It was simply too spectacular for me to walk away from it.
Unfortunately, I had the finale of ZeroRanger spoiled for me so I most likely won't go back and replay through it again but I cannot express enough how unique and memorable this game is. Well worth whatever price you end up finding it for.

One of my favorite games of all time. Striking color palette, FANTASTIC soundtrack that syncs up with the game brilliantly, ultra-refined gameplay, tons of secrets and references and little details that give it a personality unmatched by practically any other game I've ever played. The story too is phenomenal and integrates into the game's structure in an incredibly unique way that you'll either love or hate, but which is undeniably clever.
Every time I play through this it feels like a continuous, unbroken journey rather than a chain of unrelated stages. It all just flows so smoothly, and is (imo) the absolute height of the shmup genre. You simply can't find one better than this.
