i have no words to say about this indie game and how much influence it has in my life and my art. yall know how much i fucking love this game to FUCKING DEATH. 2d boy/ tomorrow corporation are geniuses in making puzzle games that also captivates you with a surreal and fascinating world thats not too fucking mythological and cliche and more weird and goofy n shit. however, their games are not goofy in subject matter at all. world of goo is the greatest game and conversation about extinction and shallowness of internet its an amazing game and its better to experience it than get relayed the information by sum rando white dude youtuber on the internet, which is exactly the subjects that this game insinuates through its adventurous and exciting story yall should play this go play it right now its like 15 dollars on steam but u can get it free if you search hard enough. go play it right now i promise u you will love it

Title
World Of Goo is a physics-based puzzler in which you have to create tower structures in order to reach a pipe and deposit blobs of goo. Often, the game doesn’t show you the objective, you have to scroll to find it. There’s a quota to reach on each level to successfully pass the level.

There’s different types of goo and you will need to take advantage of their properties. Green are great for the tower-like or bridge-like structures, so they connect to three nodes, and these can be repositioned. Black behaves similar to green but cannot be repositioned, so you need to place them wisely. White create simple chains, are strongly affected by gravity, and they are stretchy. Red are flammable which are used in interesting ways when you have to create a trail of fire which destroys your structure but you may have to ensure the goos don’t fall to their death.

There’s also some red balloons and are great for counterbalancing, or floating your structure vertically to hit switches.

The goo moves about on your structure and will stop when you hover over it. However, when there’s many colours it is really difficult to select the right one. I found the controls were insanely frustrating in this game. You can attract the goo by clicking and holding an empty space, but their behaviour was inconsistent. Also, there’s are plenty of times where a goo will move under your mouse cursor as you click, so you will grab it instead.

You are required to scroll around with the mouse. When you have picked up a goo blob and then are scrolling up towards your structure, and the structure is swaying - it is hard to correctly place the blob; often meaning I place it in the wrong place, or drop the blob, which can mean the blob is unrecoverable.

There’s definitely levels where you need to be quick because placing a blob will cause your structure to slowly fall, but then you may need to quickly grab and attach a balloon to counter-balance it. The controls don’t really support being quick though.

I sometimes felt the camera didn’t scroll smoothly, and it seems silly that the camera can’t be moved independently with the keyboard. It seems a lazy port of a mobile game, especially when you see the lack of options in the menus.

If you make a mistake, you can hit the fireflies to go back a step. Often that isn’t enough so you need to go back two steps. Given it is physics based, you may not be able to undo a falling structure without clicking a few fireflies then moving quickly to add a supporting goo. It’s awkward to click these fireflies because they fly around, sometimes zip far across the screen as you are about to click them. It’s like the game is intentionally trying to make you rage. It’s easy to make mistakes, then really hard to hit (what is essentially) the undo button. When you complete the level, a continue button drops down on a chain, but this has physics applied to it, so it bounces and swings, so sometimes even that can take a few clicks to hit.

Given that the game is quite clunky, there were some levels that felt like a complete chore to play, then I’d end up having to replay it because I didn’t collect enough goo. When you frustratingly play for a few minutes, then realise you need to start again - it is infuriating. With some levels, you can easily see the solution, but it’s such a chore to implement. It is quite possibly the most rage-inducing game I have ever played.

The difficulty level is really erratic. At first, the levels seemed well ordered, but then would suddenly drop in difficulty again.

World of Goo is a good idea on paper, but I felt it was very frustrating to play. I don’t know if it plays better on a mobile device, or maybe the Wii. The thing is, it should work well with a mouse and keyboard, but there’s no use of the keyboard; it seems a lazy PC port in general. It would be nice to be able to pan the camera with the keyboard, and have hotkeys for different coloured goo, and a dedicated button to rewind.

Title
Lots and lots of goo
A puzzle game in which you try to mesh blobs together and hope they dont fall before reaching the objective. Its mostly a physics based puzzler, with a lot of suspense since it plays real time and failure means starting over from the beginning. Unfortunatly i found that the novelty of the game wears out really fast, and as the challenge increases it gets more and more frustrating.

The cartoony and goofy visuals are cool, and so is its odd story.

Title
As many experienced with Braid and Portal, there is something exciting about being stuck in a puzzle without all the cliches of the genre. There are no falling blocks, kitschy music, or plotless gameplay here. World of Goo clearly envies the simplicity of these recent puzzle titles and aims to stand among them, which it does. The game is basically a physics puzzle where you are building bridges with the aim to get to a pipe at the end of the level. You will come across various forms of goo that have different effects, some act as a balloon, some blow up, and others help in more specific situations. The game is easy to understand and the biggest difficulty you will face are your old demons from 5th period Physics class.

World of Goo has some of the best physics ever seen in a game. Where Half-Life 2 and Portal teased us with half-assed physics puzzles, Goo demands you to learn what works and what will not work. The last portion of the game is a true trial of how well you understand the game mechanics, and there isn't a FAQ that will hold your hand through some of the tough calls you'll have to make. Like all puzzle titles, the game offers such a satisfying release when you finish a level. To add to this satisfaction is excellent presentation that offers a very relaxing PC game amidst the noise of shooters. The game tries to tell a story somewhere between Portal and Katamari Damacy [塊魂], filling the world with signs that read just like a quote from The King of All Cosmos. Unfortunately, this humor comes across as a bit trying and more in tune with some troll's humor from a IGN message board then the clever lines you heard in those other titles.

Where the humor fails, the game's world is spectacular. The game carries a strange Tim Burton in Candyland feel that is charming and haunted, once again recalling Braid. Without ruining anything, the 3rd gameworld completely changes the gameplay and setting. The game suddenly explores new avenues and themes to great success, offering the sort of inventiveness that most big franchises hold on to for a sequel.

games that were released around this time by indie developers hold a special place in my heart, because they're what inspired me to try to become a developer in the first place.

there's such a unique atmosphere of sadness and nostalgia in this game, and unlike other indie games that directly aim for the heart its all very subtle. very rarely is such a minimalistic story so meaningful
