Special agent William "B.J." Blazkowicz steals a medallion from a general on the German battleship Tirpitz. Discovered and captured, he unwittingly unleashes the power of the medallion, which kills all his foes for him. Hijacking a plane from the Tirpitz, he escapes and returns to the OSA headquarters. During a meeting there, he learns that the medallion needs crystals called Nachtsonne, mined only in a city in Germany called Isenstadt, to make use of its full power. The Nazis have begun digging for crystals, led by a general named Viktor Zetta. He also hands over the medallion to the OSA for further research. Shortly after, Blazkowicz is sent to Isenstadt, but upon arriving by train, his cover is already blown by an unknown informant. He then meets up with agents from the Kreisau Circle, a German resistance group dedicated to fighting the Nazis, and with them, makes it to Isenstadt.
I feel that this game is insanely underrated. Its very obviously limited in terms of budget, and it really could have used more time in its development cycle. Despite this, it still manages to be a very solid nazi killing romp with a sci fi twist.
you play as blazkowiz, and in your last mission as a spy you managed to recover an artifact that effectively gives you time altering properties. Wolfenstein games have never been about the plot (even if the New Order shines in this aspect), but the few characters it introduces are all likable rebels, and keeps you motivated to fight the good fight.
Throughout the game you have a hub city area, in which you can start the main missions of the game. Unfortunatly there are only very few missions, plus a couple of optional side missions. Its a really short game, and in this sense having a hub area doesnt quite make sense. I do like the familiarity of the place after returning from a mission, but apart from the weapon dealer there really isnt much to do in the city. It feels like wasted potential. there are a lot of collectibles hidden, but i never found it satisfying to hunt them down.
as for the actual missions, they suffer a bit from being overly linear and really lacking big open areas to shoot your way throw. they do have variety though. That said, its Raven we are talking about here, so you know for sure that they nailed down the feeling of the weapons and the gore system. There is a big variety of weapons available, some of them being quite bizarre, and they are all really satisfying to shoot. Not to mention that adding slow motion powers to an action game instantly makes it better in my eyes. For the gameplay alone the game is worth playing. The bosses are kinda bad, but what fps does them right?
overal its a very solid title, and i would definitly recommend it for fans of fps.

This game has nice art direction and good lore and gunplay, but god, is the movement so sluggish and slow, and most of the time you won't be using the sprint button due to its ridiculous amount of head bobbing

This is one of those games, like Bulletstorm, that had competent gameplay for its time, but...has sort-of fallen by the wayside. 2005 to present has been full of good shooters, but if a game isn't about online-play or if it isn't a cartoon-based, objective-less free-roamer...the game isn't going to succeed.
I'm not even sure who actually bought this game; there weren't a lot of quality single-player games in 2009. The economy crashed and everything, remember? I found myself playing a pirated copy of this for a couple of months, got to the end and never thought of even buying it or replaying it in all these years.
All I remember is some portal-to-another-dimension mechanic near the end, underground crystals and wanting to play Day of Defeat instead.

You know what, I had a pretty good time with this. Weapon customization was fun, the shooting felt alright and the magic-tech mechanics were weird enough to be interesting. The hub world was fun enough to sneak around and feel like a Nazi-killing spy in too
This game is so hard to find, even on consoles. Now that Microsoft owns Activision, who have kept Raven Software in the COD mines, hopefully we will be able to get this game back on Steam or rereleased.
