Title
Violent Storm is by far Konami's best beatemup precisely because they aped Capcom. the diverse moveset is astoundingly entertaining and unlike other Konami games mechanically functional (although, high scoring is just using uppercut with wade on everything). Boris has an awesome playstyle for speedrunning. He's hilarious. The soundtrack and art direction is 90s camp at its finest. Very well made on those fronts and bound to delight many gamers nostalgic for this style. The enemy design and behaviour is well done, and although the bosses are all about dumb looping patterns, that's nothing unusual for beatemups and is just something you get used to anyways, and the bosses do come with heaps of personality and great voice clips to go along with the banging Boss tunes. This is a funny, carefree classic with strong fundamentals, great style, and also quite forgiving on resources (lots of food and you can gain many lives from scoring). Warmly recommended.

    I can't say enough good about this game. The soundtrack is cheesy and hilarious while also being unironically terrific, every single boss is oozing with originality and character, the sprites are huge and lovingly animated, the beat-em-up gameplay is the tightest in any Konami game, and there are little moments of humor, style and personality scattered throughout every stage. I wish the player characters were a little more interesting design-wise, but otherwise my only complaint is that I wish there was more of it.
