Great early classic, amazing soundtrack, stage 5 in particular is a banger. Good graphics, solid design. The skull attack is iconic. The Mega Drive port is flawed, mediocre sound, cropped screen... but it has difficulty selection and that's a very good thing in my book, player friendly port. Not that I can beat the game anyway, stage 5 is impossible, but there's a long way before getting there. It's kind of a Compile style shooter with a bit of a Gradius effect. And a tendency to spawn enemies from the rear, which I hate. Enemies are aggressive, lots of kamikazes, you got to herd them as much as bullets sometimes, but nothing too bad. Good chekpoints, good fun. One of the very best 80s shooters.

Truxton on the Genesis is a pretty standard, middle of the road shmup. It offers up some fun gameplay and I would for sure recommend it to players looking for an entry into the genre, it doesn't have much to keep you engaged. The gameplay is pretty standard, and maybe even a little lacking compared to other entries on the system.
The game's cool cyber-gothic aesthetic is one of the most positive things this game has going for it. The graphics are very crisp and clear, and the enemies and level design is actually quite fun to check out. It looks pretty cool, but plays like any standard game shmup with limited powerups. Bosses are pretty fun, the game can get a little tough (but nowhere near the bullet hells we know today).
Yes, it's worth checking out if you are curious to see some sci-fi shmups on the console, but I can't find too many other reasons (cool sounding name aside) to praise it.
