Total Overdose

Actually was one of the games i was really hyped to play when i was a kid, but only got to it about now. I think at the time the mediocre reviews drove me away, which is probably for the best, but playing it now i can see why it was so appealing to me. It features a main character that does all sort of cool moves like wall walking and slow motion diving while shooting enemies. Besides he makes funny jokes about people being fat and/or mexican, how cool is that?

The game is a mess really, and engineered to please as many edgy teens at the time as it was possible. Its got the gameplay of Max Payne (except with autoaim for console play), open world of GTA and a foul mouthed protagonist that would make Dante of DMC sound like Shakespear. Unfortunatly it does neither of these aspects well. The open world is really lackluster and bland, and just there to be there since luckily you can choose missions out of a menu. Visually its an ugly game considering that it came out in 2005, very cartoonish look that still cant hid the ugly textures and models. The music is cool for the most part and fits the mood of the game, its a lot of Moloko and parady mexican tunes. The actual missions are really repetitive, and often ask you to perform the same task 3 times in order to drag it out. They involved a lot of respawning enemies most of the time, so i ended up rushing to the objective when i got fed up. The gunplay is a bit jarring. The enemies are bullet sponges and the accuracy of your weapons is pretty shit. The auto aim is always present, but even with that it takes way more than it should to kill enemies. The slow motion diving does feel satisfying to use, but its not enough to keep this game from feeling very repetitive. There are also some powers available like getting a minigun on each arms or having muerte help you out for a brief period. These are crucial in the hardest moments of the game, and mostly fun to use.

So yea, overal a pretty mediocre game but even then i still had some fun with it. Im sure the 13 year old me old love it though.
