Title
i've never played through more than a few levels of a splinter cell game so i figured one of the most casualized dumbed down action shooter version would be a good start..? probably not. its really short, the controls are fucking stupid and make no practical sense, seriously even towards the end of the game i still wasnt use to the shit controls. instead of playing it stealthy i found myself just rushing every encounter killing the braindead AI asap to progress and not waste time. it's really easy for a stealth game. the weapon upgrade system felt pointless and tacked on, as the game was already easy enough. most of the mechanics I found go unused like the cover system and the darkness system, as well as the point shooting, i ignored most of it. also maybe the terrible optimization isn't helping any of this..

you really can just play this like a shit bagain bin third person shooter, its designed for console players and it shows. the story is somewhat entertaining, so theres that. i don't know the game just felt really pointless in all of its execution, atleast it wasn't grueling, and i can say that some parts were kinda fun.

5/10

Title
Not very convincing.
Splinter Cell Conviction both fails as an action game and as a stealth game. Its understandable what they were trying to do, effectively making a game that can permit both stealth and action to be vaible routes, and equally as satisfying. However, where games like MGS5 and the newer Deus Ex suceeded in this regard, Convictions falls flat on its face. The level design with high level covers and lots of enemies seems to encourage head on fire fights, but the players that due to it are quickly aware of the terrible accuracy of the main character, that struggles to hit anything past 5 meters. So stealth it is, but the level design is not interesting enough to make this option as enjoyable as it should. The AI is also dumb as a brick, but they are way more accurate with their weapons than you are. Its a game that tries to be for everyone but satisfies noone, and its a pretty frustrating experience because of this. Fortunatly they improve a lot on Blacklist.

The story is pretty terrible, like Tom Clancy's games seem to be. Takes itself too seriously and its very generic.

Title
After three years and many revisions, Ubisoft Montreal finally decided the proper facial hair for rogue agent Sam Fisher’s fifth outing.

There are two things that stand out about this entry: presentation and pacing. The presentation is outstanding in every aspect. As you traverse European locales, you will see mission objectives and information projected onto the walls. It’s a novel effect that immerses and sets a great noir tone. The game also has brilliantly directed cutscenes with great camera framing and visual effects — not that these save the mediocre story and performances.

Fans of the franchise will most likely feel ambivalent toward the gameplay changes in this entry. On one hand, the game feeds the player enough information visually to make it easier to play a master spy. On the other hand, the game’s scenarios and level design encourage the player to play like a common burglar, shooting everything that moves when spotted. There is even a level that takes place in the Middle East that plays (and controls) like a 5th rate Gears of War — why?

Even in the other levels, the game often gives mixed signals to the player, setting up enemy traps that encourage a firefight. It ties everything to Fisher’s rogue agent state-of-mind, but it doesn’t make for a good stealth or action game. The co-op, on the other hand, places this conflict on your partner which, surprisingly, makes it enjoyable. Rather than facing the conflict of stealth/firefight yourself, your incompetent partner will force you into the later. Unlike the game developers, you’ll be able to scream at him for his errors.

"It's a good game just not a good X game" is such a cliched and overused defense at this point.

Yeah it's a decent Jack Bauer/Jason Bourne simulator but too short and the gameplay has little depth.

Denialbe Ops is a saving grace for this game - both solo and coop. Some of the most fun i had in challenge mode.
