Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales

CD Projekt made rather weird decision by trying to promote GOG by making this game exclusive. It seems that they believed that it is enough to add "Witcher" into the title and everything will sell. They were proven wrong and it's a shame, because "Thronebreaker" is a worth playing.

Ironically the worst part of the game is battle system, which supposed to be its highlight (originally it supposed to be a campaign for "Gwent", not a standalone title). It's not bad...in small doses, but after time the fights are getting boring, especially that there are so many of them add they are rather easy. The creators were aware of these problems, so they also added puzzles, the thing is, that many of them are more irritating than challenging, because there is only one way, one sequence to solve them.

That's a bad thing, but the rest of the game is...pretty good. The story is engaging (we get to know how Queen Meve of Lyria and Rivia lost her throne and how she fights to get it back) and there are also some callbacks to the books, which is nice. Most of the characters aren't stereotypical, and even if they are, they are still fun. Also throughout the game player is forced to make some tough choices and some of them come back later to bite him (or her) in the ass. Generally it's nothing major, but it is still nice (and sometimes life of some characters depends on what you decide) and interesting. The story is definitely a strong part of this game.

Visuals are also very nice. The isometric view didn't bother me, because the landscapes vary and I like the style of graphics which looks a little similar to comic books. I like the music, it helps to immerse myself into the world, I also like voice acting, actors definitely did great job!

This game is not without its flaws, but still, "Thronebreaker" offers hours of rather enjoyable experience. I think it is worth playing.
