The Long Dark is a thoughtful, exploration-survival experience that challenges solo players to think for themselves as they explore an expansive frozen wilderness in the aftermath of a geomagnetic disaster. There are no zombies - only you, the cold, and all the threats Mother Nature can muster.

The story is fine, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But the survival side is the best survival game out there, so if that's the experience you want, you really need to get this.
I tried pushing towards playing the hardest difficulty because I thought I was a badass. That made me look through guides. Fuck that shit. I want to play this game on the second difficulty if I ever return to this. It was tight when I did.
Bleak, uncertain, beautiful, overwhelmingly Canadian. Godspeed You! Black Emperor ass game.
I get the exact same immersion-to-the-point-I-forget-I-exist thing from this that I got from playing Minecraft at age 11, except as a grown ass adult trying to dip out of their own existence as much as possible. I had no idea a game could even do this to me still. Instant fucking 5. Not even 10 hours in. The only gripe I have with this is the occasional repetitive and/or dumbass comment from your character ("Wonder who owns this stuff?" bro, it's the apocalypse, shut the fuck up) which you shouldn't turn off because they also say crucial status checks. Other than that, I'm stunned. Going through Carter Hydro Dam with the aurora going on, knowing that this wasn't a horror game or a shooter and nothing was going to pop out and/or fuck me up but still exploring the creepiest possible type of location I can imagine, gave me the most pleasant chill on a cold winter night. This game is like a dirt cheap depression meal that also happens to be nutritious as hell. Hope I'll never get sick of it.
This is an interesting point, but the wolves are fairly different to zombies in games. You can scare them away with loud noises or by throwing rocks at them, sometimes they'll choose not to attack you, and they're attracted to the smell of raw meat. Also, even if they did function more similarly, the tone set by the game is very different just based on their appearance.

^spot on my exact feeling about this game, I don't get this rating
Yeah, you just renamed them into wolves.
