*After playing endless Jackbox games with my roomies throughout the pandemic, some games over discord, and introducing my family to the series as something to do over the holidays, I feel it's time I review each party pack. I plan on reviewing each party pack, so make sure to check my thoughts on the other games if you're looking for what party pack to try next. I don't rate these games the same as I would a video game because they play closer to board games*
Party pack 6 is more then serviceable. It contains 3 solid games so there's not much to complain about. However, this really feels like the start of the team starting to run out of ideas and rehash other ideas in way too similar of a thing. It's not like this hasn't existed before within Jackbox (by this point there are 3 versions of fibbage, 2 quiplashes, and a couple games which are clearly a revamped version of another game) but almost every game in this pack is a rehash of another in some way. Joke Boat is mad verse city but for jokes, Dictionariaum is a twist on fibbage, push the button is very similar to fakin it, and trivia murder party 2 is literally a sequel. The only unique one is role models. Again, that doesn't mean all of these games are bad, but it's the first time I noticed the game's getting formulaic.
Joke Boat shows this the best because it's simply not funny. Mad Verse City was almost always funny because if you mess up a rap, the group laughs about it. If you mess up a joke, no one laughs. It feels too on the nose and every attempt at playing this has left the group bored.
Dictionarium is a similar case being a lame version of Fibbage that just doesn't work because the basis of Fibbage is just better. Filling in words based on what actually happened is a lot more interesting then filling in words to make up words.
Push the Button is similar to faking it and while I prefer faking it, there's no denying this is a solid social deduction game. Game's are chaotic and blending in feels both reasonable but challenging. Hacking systems leads to lots of fun and ultimately it's a great game. It's easily the favorite out of my friends on discord, but that's likely cause we can't play fakin it.
Trivia Murder Party 2 is the best trivia game. More murders, more minigames, and a fixed final sequence is a blast. Not much to say but that this one is great.
Finally we have role models which I believe is heavily underrated. It's not a particularly deep game, but playing with a few close friends can lead to a couple of laughs.
Every party pack up till 9 will now carry this feeling of sameness from the other packs. The quality of the game's will mostly be solid, but if you've been playing over the years you're likely gonna start feeling a bit more tired towards some of the games.
