Tekken 7

The first and last eighth-generation main entry of the Tekken series guarantees fluid combat at stable 60fps and endless hours of multiplayer fun for competitive players. However, it didn't feel like a big generational leap from the previous chapters. I know that most players just play online nowadays, but I wish they would put some more effort into offline content as well.

Tekken always had a ridiculous story, but the campaign this time ranks amongst the laziest and worst-written in videogame history, which is kind of sad, as this was supposed to mark the final chapter of the Mishimas storyline. I was also very disappointed to notice that there is no Team Battle mode this time.

Other than that, it's just another Tekken entry with the same qualities and flaws. Rage Arts have been introduced as some kind of special move to turn the tide in a critical situation. However, unlike Mortal Kombat's "X-Ray" attacks, they have very little visual impact and actually end up slowing down the gameplay.

Locking playable characters (who you can fight) behind a paywall is shameful and it's unbelievable that there are people defending this once derided practice. Game is great asides from that, though I miss Tekken 5's nonexistent load times.

The best fighting game ever, period. Though the game could be criticized by the abysmal story mode and single player modes, that would be ignoring its biggest strenght, that lies in the actual fighting.

The game features the most expansive character roster yet, with a huge diveristy of fighters that have different approaches to combat. Even if the core concept remain the same, in terms of seizing up juggles and punishing the oponents mistakes, the specifics of the moveset of each character makes it like learning a whole new language. This makes it an extremely rewarding game to learn and figure out, even more since the knowledge quickly correlates to in game skill. But these are all points that were present in the last tekken games. What makes this one a cut above the rest is the suberb control and animation, and the big additions to gameplay namely the rage moves and slow motion finishers. The last two in particular means that the fight is only over when its over, and there is always a chance to come back until the point you are KO'd. Though i havent played it too long, these additions have already created some of the best memories i have with fighting games. Tekken and Soul Calibur have always been the reason why i prefer 3d fighters over 2d ones, and this capitalizes on everything that makes a 3d fighting so appealing to me.

The polish is out of this world, whether its in the animations, all of the cosmetic stuff you can add to your character, the hitboxes are brilliant (even more considering this is a 3d game) and there is a big selection of maps. And i truely believe that the game will be improved contentwise even further in the future. In my eyes it did everything it set out to do.
