Tekken 4

In terms of gameplay mechanics, Tekken 4 is hard to defend. The game's glitchy and broken collisions, as well as the uneven stages, are enough motives for criticism.

It's truly sad that it has unforgivable gameplay flaws, which are the cornerstone of fighting games (and most games in general). Because, besides its most crucial aspect being flawed, Tekken 4 successfully attains virtually every other goal it sets for itself.

As a kid who mistakenly received the game thinking it was Tekken 5 and would just mash buttons in every fight, that would not be the most relevant thing for me at the time. Gameplay intricacies weren't the most pressing concern for me.

The game excelled in style, story, visuals, soundtrack... every aspect was executed beautifully in surprising ways. No other game has managed to evoke such a cold and immersive atmosphere as T4 did, and I'm genuinely glad that it exists. These elements left me profoundly satisfied then, and they continue to do so (even better than before). If only there had been a way to fix the game's issues back in the day as they do nowadays, it could have easily stood as one of the greatest fighting games of all time.

This is the best Tekken game if you're looking at story, stages, character designs, and every other aspect of presentation. The gameplay is flawed, sure. It's still fun if you can accept that it's a bit broken, and it just has this great feeling that no other game in the series can match.

A far slimmer roster, a diminished sense of fun across the board and of course those new stage hazards and wall mechanics hamper what should be a home run entry for the series. Not exactly terrible, but considered the black sheep of Tekken for a reason.

It was the first game i bought for the PS2, so it obviously as a lot of sentimental value to me. That said, there is a reason why this game stands out as one of the weakest of the series, and that is because of something called wall hit. Because of the wall hit mechanic, fighters call get insta stunned to walls are long as the other fighter keep hitting. This made the game increadibly frustrating and cheap. Which is a shame because the rest of it is great. It looks amazing for 2001, it features the great nonsense stories everyone expects of the series, the animation and feel of the game is masterful.. Its just the wall hit mechanic that breaks the game so much that it cant be approached as a competitive fighting game.

Inside the game, it includes Tekken Force, which is a 5 level 3d beat em up with the characters of the game. It features a lock on mechanic, and as far as im aware you can pull off the entirity of a characters move list. Its a nice addition, but its really clunky to play, and the enemies thrown at you are so many that they overpower you.

The series would definitly hit its peak with Tekken 5, but for storywise purposes this is worth a playthrough..
