Mario is invited to the Star Festival by Princess Peach, but Bowser interferes yet again by stealing Peach's castle with a flying saucer. Mario is launched into space, but is rescued by a woman named Rosalina and her Luma companions. With their home, the Comet Observatory, they can reach the center of the galaxy, where Bowser is holding Peach captive. But Mario, with the assistance of one of the Lumas, must collect Power Stars in order to give the Observatory enough power to do so.
Super Mario Galaxy is an extremely breathtaking experience.
The development for this game dates back to the near release of the Nintendo Gamecube. It was released on the Wii which goes to show how much time was put into this game. And it shows.
The Mushroom Kingdom is celebrating the Star Festival until Bowser interrupts and kidnaps Peach. Mario once again must save her. But now he is exploring the cosmos.
Super Mario Galaxy makes Bowser a bigger threat than ever and the concept of it taking place in space really sets that mood.
Mario in this game is a bit stiffer in controls compared to previous entries but it works really well regardless. His spin jump is a great feature.
I can't talk about Mario Galaxy without mentioning the music. It's the first orchestrated Mario game and it really captures the feeling of exploring space. It also contains some of the best pieces of video game music I've ever heard.
The level design, though very linear and straightforward is great. Not as good as the game's sequel, but still great. The environment of each Galaxy is great and it's a very beautiful game.
This also saw the debut of Rosalina who is an excellent character.
This is also the first 3D Mario game on console to let you play as Luigi if you collect all 120 stars.
This game is fairly easy but there are some difficulty spikes but they aren't as annoying as Super Mario Sunshine.
This game is extremely beautiful and holds a special place in my heart as it is the first game that made me fall in love with video games. When I played this again for the first time in years, I cried and that was due to the beauty of this game and it was the stepping stone into this crazy world for me
Thanks, Nintendo
Thanks Super Mario Galaxy

This game is so nostalgic, including all of the soundtrack, especially the gusty garden galaxy, comet observatory, space junk galaxy, and gateway galaxy music. It is also very fun and every level, or "star" is an amazing experience, ranging from some pretty fun enemies and bossfights, and cool powerups such as the ghost mario, along with some basic themes like a spooky galaxy, an autumn themed galaxy, or beach themed galaxy, and some more unique themes like a toybox themed galaxy and candy themed galaxy. The story is also pretty nice and it all feels like a space adventure with mario having to rescue princess peach from the evil villain bowser as always as is every mario game, with some fun challenges such as racing, chasing and catching bunnies, destroying trash with bomb-ombs in a given time limit, and all the "comets" provide more fun challenges like beating a boss with low health, completing a star in a time limit, racing against a clone, or navigating a deadly planet with all the enemies and dangers being a lot faster, and also collecting purple coins sometimes in a given time limit. At times this game can be difficult, but it is fairly easy for a beginner to be able to beat without major struggles. I would definitely play this game again sometime and recommend it to anybody who has never played it.

If there is any game that made my childhood it would be this game. This game was my favorite game as a kid. I remember every weekend going to Family Video and renting this game all the time until I eventually got the game and it was most definitely the game that defined my childhood.

An outwardly beautiful game, and to that end, an experience that leaves the player wondering what else is possible within the parameters of the series. For a series that has always prioritized fun and solid level design above all else, here is a game where stages become galaxy clusters and all that you encounter, to the very Goombas and other series staples, become recontextualized. The scapegoat of this design philosophy fittingly becomes the gameplay, which is simplified almost beyond strategy, and the stage design, which never fully satisfies the player's itch in terms of what's even possible with the freedom to introduce new mechanics at the drop of a hat. Super Mario Galaxy 2 would be an improvement in almost every regard.

I'm 19 years old and Super Mario Galaxy was one of my first Wii games as a child. I don't think i'd be understating if i said this changed my life. i'm definitely a little blinded by nostalgia, but i feel like everything about this game is so finely tuned; with respect to the aesthetics of the game, I fondly remember staring out past Good Egg Galaxy onto the massive planet below, where the sun breaking over the horizon permanently illuminates yellow power stars drawn into the ground like Nazca lines. The stripped back, skeletal, synth backing that plays as Mario selects a level in the fountain; spinning the screen to get a better view at said levels triggers perfectly spacey and massive sound effects that rise and fall as the galaxies spin around the comet observatory's view. The ever changing music (on which essays could be written), design philosophy, and look of Galaxy in every selected level, even in the observatory as the game progresses. Of course a 3D Mario game would be a fun game to play; playing 64 or Odyssey made it so that was never really in doubt. But something about Galaxy has such ephemeral beauty, in every aesthetic choice and, for me, every game design choice (though I could understand criticism on that front – lookin' at you, spring suit & Loopdeloop Galaxy). Galaxy remains a luminescent example of what video games could be: bold, experimental, and really beautiful and wondrous.

The hub was dope as a kid but it kind of lame now ngl. Not conceptually but walking around it with very little to do and seeing the gamey terrace design and shit like that.
I played this game when I was 6 and now I'm showing my little sister how to play it. It's amazing how great this game is at teaching kids how to play games. The gravity mechanics can seem confusing at first, but the level design is just so intuitive. I think that's really the charm of Mario games and why this game deserves to be one of the best of all time. There's really nothing quite like it. That and it hasn't aged a day.
