Title
at age 10-11 i would stay up until around 5am in order to watch koreans play this game as paid professionals on GOMTV which was an unforgettable experience. it felt like i was watching aliens play sports on another planet, only it was the one sport that i loved and none of my friends seemed to understand. the players were treated like rockstars and walked out to their computers with WWE-like introductions (just look at this! https://youtu.be/YWybEJALOI8). i dreamed of gaming professionally after this and some of the players, like idra, were idols to me in my formative years rather than normal athletes

this game was a landmark in RTS and the video game industry as a whole, but there are a fair amount of aspects that don't stand the test of time

boundless love for this game, really. high level brood war is such a miraculous thing to behold, and though i'd sooner attribute that to fluke than genius game design by blizzard - there's no way they imagined that anyone would ever get as good at this game as the top koreans are, and as such could not have foreseen just what people would be able to do with their game - it doesn't change the fact that this turned out to be the most beautiful and technical rts of all time. an occasionally clunky engine (bad unit pathing, limited unit selection, etc.) does little to hinder the imaginative race designs and depth of strategy and micromanagement on display. coincidentally enough the music and storylines are amongst blizzard's most artful, so i'd say this game's really special overall.
