It follows Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis, who becomes a target of the Galactic Empire and is hunted throughout the galaxy by the Imperial Inquisitors while attempting to complete his training, reconcile with his troubled past, and rebuild the fallen Jedi Order.
The first level makes you think you're in for a cinematic experience, but the rest just feels like bland Uncharted style jumping around.
I didn't realize this was "soulslike" until I started getting frustrated at how far back I'd have to go when I died. Often I'd clear an area, fall into a pit... then have to go back and kill all the guys again.

It's the best way to describe this entire game. One word. Flawed. It's got many things going for it but almost just as many going against it.
2.5/5 Characters
Cal Kestis (MC) is bland and boring as hell. It doesn't help that he's run by a pretty bad voice actor. No charisma, lisping, speech impediments, mumbling. I mean it's realistic but it's boring and annoying. Doesn't help that he keeps talking to himself throughout the entire game. And it wouldn't be Star Wars without a cute little droid sidekick, I guess? BD1 is basically a BB8 who sits on your back and becomes a reason for the MC to talk to themselves even more. Opens doors, let's you zipline, can get upgraded and modified (skins) along the way. Nothing too exciting. Sidekick 1 aka Cere Junda is actually a pretty good character with a good back story but ends up getting sidelined and feeling like a complete token character cause she has no natural purpose in the story other than to have "deep" talks with MC. Her dialogue is insanely lazy, cheesy and superfluous. They should've turned her and Cal/Greez into one single person instead of two. Sidekick 2 aka Greez Dritus Disney Era-Star Wars doesn't like to have alien main characters but if they do have them they follow a very simple function and pattern. In this case they wanted to play it safe and go for a Han Solo/Atton Rand type of character. A sassy rogue pilot with trust issues and a sketchy past. He's comic relief and a "cool guy" who invites trouble in the form of side missions. It actually works out alright overall. Nightsister Merrin is the best character in the game and almost feels like something from the old Expanded Universe. Of course her character is the best because she is based upon/inspired by pre-Disney stories and characters. It's a fresh air with withcraft and witches in the SW universe. She should've been a bigger part of the game. The villains Sixth and Ninth sister (unrelated to nightsister) are laughable. I don't remember which is which but they were just very weak and silly.
2.5/5 Story/Dialogue (SPOILERS)
I LOVE that it's set in the aftermath of Order 66. It's the perfect setting for a game especially. Overall the plot is good if you zoom in on it it becomes a bit more problematic and messy. You try to find a hidden artifact containing a list/map of young potential jedis before the sith do. I think jumping back and forth in time (often using flashbacks that don't make sense since you don't have amnesia or anything) takes away from the experience as well. The game should've started in Order 66 and been linear. Also there's a lot of plotholes peppered throughout the game. You can delve deep into a tomb where no one has been, but all of a sudden there's a billion stormtroopers there ahead of you who definitely don't know force jump or any other stuff like that so they couldn't possibly ever have gotten there. Stuff like that. Dialogue was a weak aspect of the game. Mediocre voice acting paired with insanely cheesy and contrived conversations. There is almost zero chemistry between characters.
2/5 Mechanics/Controls/Maps
The mechanics and physics are very clumsy and unnatural. It takes a while to get used to. The fighting controls are awful. It's insanely boring and difficult at the same time. It's very uninspiring to do the same tricks over an over against hordes of enemies. It was hard to learn to fight properly and to master all kinds of enemies. Not a fan of the "open world" dungeon-delving where everything looks the same. It's a parkour maze in a tomb fighting hordes of the same enemy over and over. And the map system sucks. I almost quit the game on the second planet cause I kept getting lost.
3.5/5 Visuals
Apart from the characters who look like they're from a game from 10 years ago, the visuals are stunning.

I love Star Wars. I’ve been a fan of it since I was eight, and it’s a good franchise. I wanted to love this game.
I entered it with an open mind. Beautiful graphics, an amazing intro, fun combat, enjoyable lore, well-written main character. The first planet is also very enjoyable and the characters on your ship are fun to talk to. There are tons of good things going for this game; and I was almost in love with it immediately.
But then, after the Wookiee planet, something hit me. I was bored as all hell. Mind you, the combat had been fun and exhilarating, and I loved the parkour and the movement. Unfortunately, it just felt too slow. There was too much linearity without enough movement. The story felt like a long, slow crawl; and even though I wanted to go to Mustafar first, I literally couldn’t progress if I did. So, basically, it didn’t matter what I picked.
That annoyed me a lot and really turned me off the game. I eventually finished it after a good month or so but it took several breaks because of how long I felt everything was taking.

Played on PS4, the controls are really bad, boss combats too difficult on "Jedi knight" difficulty and the difficulty gap between "hystory" and "knight" modes is way too big. It's also too short and the story, well, like every post first trilogy Star Wars thing is meh. And what's the point with the character? She joins the crew almost at the end of the story just to take out Cal out of the water in the last seconds?

This game fully delivers on the blockbuster Star Wars action adventure that fans have wanted for a long time. It consists of great combat, cool upgrades, tons of lore, and rewarding exploration. Also, it has one of the best intros I have ever experienced.
My minor complaints are platforming issues and random glitches. Some of the game’s most epic moments were tarnished by me falling “to my death.” Most of the time, it wasn’t my fault. The game is forgiving, as you just lose some health and retry, but the thrill of doing it in one take was gone.
This game genuinely feels like Star Wars. It’s filled with comedy, betrayal, action-packed set pieces, and even the playful or dramatic music to fit the tone. Fans will love it, while people less familiar with the franchise will understand why it is so revered.

Alright, I've been waiting years for something like this, an assassin's creed style Star Wars game, (though i guess we did have force unleashed). The execution is great really, gameplay is very smooth, the level design is very nice, there are some nice spectacle moments.
There are honestly not many faults I can find in it, except the story and general direction of the game, It's a bit dull, it feels very small in scope, like they wanted to pull the punches, the games feels like it could be so much more, as nothing too big happens in the game and towards the end it starts to feel a bit mundane. This could have been fine if the narrative and characters could back it up, but the story and characters are very average as well, sometimes the writing can be quite bad too, which brings the experience down.
Again however, the gameplay and level design is great, and it's a very enjoyable experience, it just feels quite lacking, if the story isn't interesting, than going all out with god of war or uncharted levels of epicness would more than make up for it, generally it seems that is where they would go for the sequel, they have the budget and the audience, and hopefully we can see a jump in the vein of Assassin's Creed I to II.
A great albeit relatively forgettable game.
