good, crazy good, very innovative to the sonic franchise and fresh in an amazing kind of ways.

definitely flawed in terms of a kinda bizarre ending, somewhat botchering the cyberspace and having way too many 2D sections in a 3D game, but when you get to control and play as sonic in an open world enviroment with so many options and flexibility for movement, you really cannot go wrong.

the versatility of combat is also great, and although i wish there was more left field choices all over the game being launched straight to the face like the fishing with big moment, pinball pre-boss minigame or the random appearance of a pseudo-ikaruga shooter as a key feature of the gameplay, they are much welcome.

ouranos island really could have been a section of kronos reopening up or like something completely different that fits more the final zone feeling though.

here's to the game selling semi-decently and sonic team copying the formula with very few new tricks to pull out every single release for the next 8 years.

To make it brief for people who don't care about long reviews, it is mediocre. Plain and simple, this game had next to nothing in it to make it an interesting game. While a good sonic title perhaps that just makes the fact that most Sonic games suck even more apparent.

Pros:
Good voice acting
The open world is a good step forward
No more meta humor
A return to spectacle, which classic Sonic games were always about
The plot is good and the characters grow
The new character Sage was well done
The game was running day 1 without any game breaking bugs

Cons:
The classic sonic levels in cyberspace were awful
The game had very bad pacing issues
The mini-games and cyberspace levels had very uneven difficulty
While the open world was cool it was painfully shallow
The game is so casual it hurts
Missing many quality of life features
The game is far too easy due to things like the basic parry
The graphics are mediocre, the fact that Sonic Unleashed wasn’t surpassed with this game is telling
The combat was boring and many enemies took way too long to fight. Why fight a mini boss with really long animations when I could just fight one of the ninja ones?
Had some loading issues and texture issues but not enough to ruin it

Overall only time will tell how people receive this game in the future. Will this be the shaky step in the right direction from Sega or will it be another mediocre game in a long line? Don’t let Sonic fans fool you, this is a good Sonic game but that means little in terms of real games.
