Sniper Elite 4

I have played all Sniper Elite games and enjoyed most of them, and Sniper Elite 4 is definitely the best one yet by far. The story have never been a strong aspect of these games, but no one play them for the story anyways. Sniper Elite 4 took the already awesome sniping of previous entry and combine it with refined stealth and close quarter combat, making the gameplay fell less clunky compared to 3 and V2. The missions are also set in huge areas which allow you the freedom to do the mission how you want, making the experience a lot more immersive as you feel like an actual sniper sneaking around scouting and planning how to take out enemies. This is definitely the biggest improvement as the older games sometimes feel like a shooting gallery given how linear some of the levels are. This also make co-op a lot more enjoyable as you and your friends are able to try out different playstyles such as having one person sneaking in an area while the other provide sniper support which was not possible in older games beside in Overwatch. Overall this is definitely a well made game.

However the bullet cam is often disappointing. While the X-Ray killcam is awesome and the damage to the bones and skulls is more detailed than before, the non X-Ray killcam is absolutely trash. This is because there is no bullet impact shown on the enemy model, so you just see the bullet goes through and blood and that is just hella lame. Also seeing someone skulls smashed into pieces and then seeing their bodies and they look like they are just sleeping is also lame. Hopefully in Sniper Elite 5, Rebellion will improve on the bullet impacts, having better gore on dead bodies and maybe dismemberment.

The 4th entry in the series and they still failed to implement bullet tracers. You can't see where your shots are going. In a sniper game. What the fuck Rebellion.

Surprisingly solid, and perhaps the best sniping game available. The campaign is enjoyable and the co-op and multiplayer modes are awesome, whilst the overall strong Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain vibes are very welcome. As a side note, I can't think of many games that present a set of traps and secondary items as useful and enjoyable to use as Sniper Elite 4 does.

The game is let down really only by its B movie story and some questionable overarching design choices, such as the entirely useless skill tree and the tedious grinding required to upgrade weapons.

Having played this less than a year ago, I cannot remember anything about the story other than it takes place in Italy (I think.) Sniper Elite 4 is not a game you play for the story and aesthetic experience, but for the stealth sniping alone. Solo, Sniper Elite 4 gets dull with its very slow pace and lengthy missions. Playing with a friend who you trust to be able to coordinate with and on the highest difficulty, however, makes this game worth playing. My long-time gaming friend and I had a blast playing through the missions together, screwing around a bit, trying to take it stealthy and then fighting desperately when that inevitably went wrong. If you have a regular co-op friend to play with, you can't go wrong with this or any of the other games in this series.
