This Wikipedia entry for this is subtly hilarious - 'A port of the game for the Super NES was planned for a summer 1993 release, and screenshots were shown in the March 1993 issue of Nintendo Power. However, the port wound up being cancelled for unknown reasons [citation needed].' That 'citation needed' kills me, and so does 'unknown reasons', actually. How about the reason that it's a phenomenally awful idea for a computer game, and everybody that owned a SNES was at least 5 years too old or 40 years too young to get even remotely excited about it? Surely the aim in this era of video gaming was to try to put people into worlds they wouldn't be able to access otherwise; the era of straight copies of card games and board games was over. So why base a game on playing with a train set when everybody in the world with any interest in train sets already owned one? Oh hey, but this way you get to worry about business finance too. Joy.

Sid Meier's next game was the first in the Civilization series, giving him probably the most instant zero to hero transformation in any art form. I'd like to think that Tori Amos looks at Y Kant Tori Read and thinks 'well, at least it's not Railroad Tycoon'.
