I want to like this game more than I do, mainly because the idea of being a historic ruler is interesting to me (I should probably check out the other games in the franchise at some point.) As is, we have a competent but unremarkable game where you advance your civilisation against four other nations to reign supreme over the world.
My biggest issue here is how bland the presentation is, there no music apart from short samples whenever an action is taken or you're communicating with one of the other leaders, and the character models of said leaders and your own constitutes are rather uninspiring. I do appreciate how multicultural your constituents are regardless of which nation you choose, you have a tough general as your military leader, a geeky nerd as your head scientist, a white woman as your treasure and a black woman as your foreign advisor, this game is progressive in that regard at least. You also appear to acquire many historical figures throughout the game, again regardless of their real-world nationality which is another sign of positive multiculturalism this game depicts. I guess this is to offset your ultimate goal which is to colonise each of the other nations either through force, technological advancements, sheer wealth or cultural influence. You do this by building your cities with historical landmarks which increase your influence throughout the world as well as giving you in game benefits to overcome your opponents which will be ruthless towards you the further in the campaign you go. It's basically a sims game but with the end goal of ruling over the world by any means necessary, I wouldn’t be surprised of this game was how some of the more bizarre leaders rose to power in recent years with how it uncomplicated many aspects of becoming a leader.
It’s a good time waster for sure, but it's just that and maybe a good lesson in basic leadership skills due to how well explained every aspect of the campaign is here.

Wanted to play a Civilization game really bad, only had a 360, this was the alternative. had enough fun with it not to give it a 2.5, but compared to the PC games, it unsurprisingly doesn't hold up.

Truncated, but no less addicting, console installment of the classic CPU turn-based strategy series. Once you master it (i.e. the terms 'spam settlers' and 'horse/knight tech rush' should ring a bell), it loses a bit of its replayability. But still one of my favorite contemporary 'chill out for a couple hours, dominate, and then I'm done' games.

A perfect entry for newcomers to the series. This is what introduced me to Civ, at least. Not good compared to the mainline games, but I don't think it was meant to be as good as those anyway
vouch for this game being a great entry point into the series. this was my first civ game and i played the hell out of it. i have since played the PC games which are a lot more intricate (and a lot more fun). i imagine civilization revolution would be pretty lackluster for a player who already had experience playing the PC games.
Now that I've played Civ VI this game pales in comparison. But regardless I have fond memories of me and the homies spending a weekend online. We played it even up to the mid 2010s when one homie of ours still had his copy and we would smoke up and play this game until it got dark. We did all we could to break the game's already broken mechanic, lol. Also this was the first game I ever got all achievements for and I even remember being so addicted to this game that I even downloaded the mobile version in my iPod touch. Classic fun and also easy to pick up for newcomer to the series :)
