Well, this is a massive improvement over its predecessor, even so I think this is only decent at best as it's clear this was meant for more casual gamers given the way the gameplay unfolds.
Here we have a campaign where up to four players can take part in as they control one of four characters in any given level with the Ai controlling any character that doesn't have a player controlling them, control of the characters can switch as they're usually picked out to accommodate each of the levels they're in including special sections known as "hero time" where one of them plays alone (control switching to them if they were Ai controlled prior to their moment to shine.) The cast of characters is a mixed bag as we have our four heroes Shrek, donkey, Fiona and puss in boots but also have the big bad wolf, red riding hood who only has a small cameo in the film and is visibly horrified by our heroes there, Tinkerbell who doesn't even appear in the film and finally fan favourite gingy who gets bumped up to a main character in this game from his supporting role in the film. As you can tell from this line-up, the power balance between each character is very inconsistent, Shrek and Fiona being way more powerful than the rest whilst Tinkerbell and gingy being far weaker. Donkey and big bad wolf are clunky as hell with puss and Lil red being the best out of the bunch due to both being reasonably strong and incredibly nimble (quite impressive for Lil red as this predates hoodwinked by about a year.) This mismatch in the character line-up results in some rather basic gameplay that feels more at home in a party game like crash bash or Mario party but is nonetheless stretched out in each level to pad out the game. There's not much to say about the presentation or the voice cast as the former is typical for a movie tie in while the latter is a far cry from the celebrity cast that the film has.
It's a decent enough game that's worth looking at for a party starter, just don't expect much from it if you're looking for something deep to sink your teeth into.

shrek 2 is actually a decent game which is best played with friends or siblings as the co-op was probably its best feature. the wide variety of playable characters and shrek humour give this game some much needed substance, otherwise we'd be looking at a D rating.
