Is it actually positive? This is easily one of the worst games ever made imo. But somehow I'm also not really surprised that Shenmue fans love to get milked by Suzuki.
That comment is ancient dude, at the time I made the comment there was only a small demo out for people who backed the kickstarter, and shit like Shenmue Dojo and the subreddit were optimistic lol
I still have not played this and idk if I ever will, but I reserve any opinions of my own on it until then anyways
This game is depressing to think about. Personally, the visuals and sound are as good as they could be considering this is an indie game lacking the huge budget of the originals. In terms of the look and feel of the game, I think they nailed it.
Like others have said, it's just so damn sad they get this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do Shenmue III and then barely advance the story at all. And I can still tolerate the dated gameplay, but admittedly did scream when I saw I'd have to raise 5000 AGAIN to buy a key item in the second city after the agony of doing it the first time in the village.
I feel like this game could've been better if they dropped the city and just made the whole thing take place in the village, better developing and building up the area, quests and story.
yeah it's a major bummer but also the magic of Shenmue 1&2 was very much also a product of its time and Shenmue 3 couldn't really replicate it even if it was executed better unless they reinvented the series
so much of what makes 1&2 special is the amazing atmosphere, condensed open world teeming with secrets and reactivity for the time, and a strong sense of setting. It's a shame this couldn't be made in 2003.
when they said this game was going to be an epic exclusive people who paid a lot of money for this sure got mad but when epic gave shenmue 3 for free... that was just funny as hell
no amount of positive reception can save you from the wrath of glitchwavers, it seems.
that being said this game looks pretty weird what with the super awkward 'carrots' dialogue going around on youtube, lmao
