Now THIS is a video game! It is strictly bound to running right, slashing and jumping as you make a blood trail from commie bastards in cold Siberia. You get occasional temporary weapons like a flame thrower or grenades to throw, but the whole thing operates so smoothly and it never feels like an unfair challenge. Cutting through the enemies is easy and quick, but there is also a level of strategy present, indicating how you should use your levels of path which are climbable by ladders and where to shoot your weapons and how to get them. There are also bosses in this game which are fun where you fight Soviet Kamen Riders, flying experimental helicopters, and God's cruelest natural disaster, war dogs! The level of enemies the arcade version throws at you is unfairly difficult, even moreso than the many succesful home ports this game had.
The whole game reeks of awful 80s machismo and is the peak of Reagan-era camp, but the overpowering feeling that comes from it brought an important gene to the future of gameplay. This is the game that would birth everything from Contra to Mega Man. As pure a game as can be.
P.S. Green Beret is a much much better name and much less bemeaning.

You play as a soldier given the mission to destroy the enemy secret weapon. You get a basic knife attack the beginning, but you can get grenades and rpg from certain enemies. You will use the knife the most though. It is quite an intense game as you are spammed with enemies, and its a 1 hit ko game. some you can just knife them, others you need to jump and attack to get them first. One thing i dont like is the checkpoint system, that throws you back and back and can effectively land you at the beginning. The thing i like the most are the visuals in the background, which have some pretty contrasts between the military base and the forest and the setting sun. Its a decent game for the most part.
