Road Rash II

The sequel for the Genesis does little that actually improves upon the previous release, and in some very important ways is worse. The new levels and weapons would be enjoyable, except the game's audio component is just as terrible as the first game, but now we somehow get choppy (choppier) animations, which is perhaps a bigger deal in a racing combat game than in other genres. The basics are still there: You race through other racers and traffic while doing your best to knock out your enemies. It's simple and fun, but only when it works well.

The addition of new weapons is a nice indicator of the series to come, and it is nice to finally see some proper multiplayer modes. I would also add that this game seems a little more difficult than the first, not in any unfair way or due to hardware limitations, but the AI seems a little too aggressive. For all of the improvements added, they don't do much to help.This edition of the sequel is just a pale imitation of the first game. For all it adds to the formula, which isn't that much, it sure isn't better off for it.
