Now this is the proper follow-up to the original. While Road Rash 2 offers up some expansion on ideas, it doesn't really follow through on the technical aspects enough to make it even as enjoyable as the original. Road Rash 3 offers up some improved graphics, some stronger sound, and tons of new aspects to gameplay.
This edition expands the maps in a way that make them feel unique in more than just the look. Each track takes you to a place in a different country, but they have a unique feel and it really gives you the impression of each track being a new location. The sound and music are finally fixed in this game as well. The music is still a little too much on the Genesis-jangle, but it's so much better than it was. The motor and racer noises are much better too, emulating the sound effects even better.
The gameplay is where the biggest leaps are made in this edition. The menus are so much easier to navigate and you can now buy upgrades as well as new bikes. Your cash and trade-in values are easy to find. Your progression through each tournament is a lot easier to track, or at least does a better job of giving that section emphasis.
This is easily the strongest of the first three entries for the Genesis. The graphics and gameplay show a great progression, and I'm happy that the issues I had with the first two releases were fixed up (audio and unclear menus). So far I can say that this is likely the best entry of the series for the Genesis.
