Ring of Pain is the new roguelite deckbuilder, with some fresh ideas for the genre, but most importantly great execution and excellent moment to moment gameplay. Its story feels like a nod to dark souls, as you are tasked with lightning the world or leaving it to the darkness. But thats just the choice at the end of the game, for its two possible endings. To get there you need to get through a lot of creatures and challenges, as you acquired loot to equip and improve your stats. The actual dungeons are presented with a circle of cards, those being enemies, loot, potions or the exits from the level. Its a concept really well executed, allowing the player to maximize loot if they feel powerful, or make a quick run for the exit if things arent going in your favor.
The equiped loot and improving stats are the actual builds of the game, and there are plenty of valid strategies on offer. The game is a bit dependent on RNG, since the way fights are presented it may really end in a game over if your character hasnt grown sufficiently.
I like its cartoonish artstyle, very informative UI , and how the team has been updating it since launch. It has potential to be one of the best in the genre, but as it stands its still an excellent roguelite.
