Title
We're I not familiar with the original game, I'd say this is a solid if a bit short entry in the RE franchise. However, I am aware of the original, which prevents this from being among my favourite games of all time due to what I know is missing from the game.

Let's get the elephant out if the way, there's no live selections here, basically the mechanic that defined the original version is absent here for some inexplicable reason. It's also way more simplified than even the previous remake as nemesis has Ai akin to Mr x in that game which makes his presence less intimidating compared to the original as the streets of raccoon city is way more spacious here than the police precinct or raccoon city from the original game. They also altered Carlos's role in the game so that he goes to the precinct and not Jill, I'm not sure why as he still saves her life at the hospital, even though now she gets to explore the hospital as well given its not destroyed when she's saved like it was in the original. There are other changes which I consider to be a downgrade from the original, however they're the more egregious ones I felt like sharing in this review.

Despite this, I still say this game is worthwhile, yes there's a much better version out there, however this at least isn't a carbon copy of that game unlike most remakes in modern media (particularly Disney films) so you'll at least get a new experience which is still better than most of the competition.

Title
A dissapointing remake wth ok gameplay features
While decent as a game, in terms of the remake, it fails to capture the essence of the original while also cutting sections. The 100% completion rate is also easy to achieve since you can buy an infinite rocket launcher early on and obliterate all enemies without penalty, you can be honourable and complete the achievements without using unlimited weapons, but the fact you won't get penalized over this highlights the quality of the game.
The state of nemesis highlights this game; initially, he was a proto-Mr. X, who is unkillable, strikes fear among gamers, constantly chases you around and is made there to showcase what Mr X was initially supposed to be.
With RE2R released, Mr X finally flourishes while Nemesis is stuck in time and forced to copy features from Mr X. He only chases you properly once and has an alright-to-good first three encounters that start falling off in the latter 3.
The plot is also not remarkable; I was alright with some of the Carlos sections, but it becomes tedious to replay these sections in speed runs constantly.
Overall, an ok RE game-wise that sucks as a remake.

Overall, it feels like playing a RE2 Remake DLC with minor graphic upgrades. Good atmosphere and decent gameplay until it lasted, but definitely not worth the price. I recall the original game being relatively short and too similar to its predecessor as well, but this time they even cut out entire areas like the Clock Tower and just recycled maps and assets from RE2 Remake instead. Even though it looks like the intent was to provide a more action-packed experience in contrast to the puzzles and exploration of its predecessor, the final battle and ending felt a little too basic, if not anticlimactic.

When news of this remake broke, I'm sure I wasn't the only one who raised an eyebrow at the short window of time from RE2 to this. It was rumored to have been developed in tandem with RE2, but one only need look at the final product to conclude that was a crock of shit. This is further exemplified when news broke that Capcom had outsourced the project to a 3rd party company so that the main team could focus on Village. Opposed to 2's mostly faithful and brilliant reimagining, this feels completely uninspired and rushed for a quick cash grab. The OG 3 was originally intended to be a minigame attached to 2, but as progress was made it was later bumped up to main event status despite also being on a rushed timeline. As such, while I love OG 3, the later sections after the clock tower feel a bit undercooked. My initial hopes were to see the OG expanded on, both in story and approach to the mansion/police station level design that 3 married with the streets of Raccoon City. Instead, we were given a generic, linear shooter with none of the intricate level design or puzzles that we saw in 3, and a noticeable amount of missing content. Yes, there was certainly an uptick in action from 2 to 3, but they still kept the same core principals of the first 2 entries in tact (puzzle solving, backtracking, interweaving level design). And even the star feature, Nemesis, pales in comparison to Mr. X in design. Instead of giving us a cat-and-mouse chase through the streets with Nemesis being a constant pursuer, they give us a taste of this in the beginning, only to relegate Nemesis to scripted events for the vast majority of the game. Even worse, they didn't bother to expand the game in any meaningful way. Rather, they removed considerable content from the game, leaving it as a hollow husk that only resembles fragments of its source material. Hell, they couldn't even get the pacing right. From the very beginning of the game, Nemesis is introduced at random, with no suspenseful set up, and we are immediately thrown into a lame scripted chase sequence where all the player has to do is press the forward button to advance. And that's not including the multitude of times the game wrestles the controls away from the player in favor of more pointless scripted scenes. And even the thematic tie-ins to 2R are pretty lame on the whole.

Really, the only compliments I can give the game are the control scheme and combat is solid, and some of the boss battles are good. Beyond that, this was a massive disappointment and a critical missed opportunity to reimagine a good, but underdeveloped game. The worst part is we're likely never going to see another attempt to rectify this mistake. Play the OG instead, as it's far superior to this thinly-veiled boring action shooter.

Pretty cool survival action 3d person shooter, but like the 1999 original it's pretty much eclipsed by Resident Evil 2. Main complaint is that it's way too short, and it doesn't even have the randomization or non-linearity elements the PSX release had to boost that replay value up a bit. The setting and art direction is really cool though, especially in the beginning city ruins or with the expanded hospital section in the last third.

Enjoy it while it lasts because blink once and it's already over.

Title
An insane amusement park ride
To understand my position with this game it must be mentioned that i havent played the original Resident Evil 3, and i dont enjoy tank controls in my horror games. They are a very awkward and artificial way of injecting difficulty into a game. That said, i loved Resident Evil 2 Remake and i consider it to be the very best the horror genre has to offer apart from the atmosphere of Silent Hill. Coming into this game i knew that it was way more action focused than its predecessor, and so taking it as it is i have a blast with it.

First of it must be mentioned that the visuals are incredible, such thing was already apparent in the previous title. They toned down a bit the gore system, which is disappointing, but considering the faster nature of the game and the weaker enemies, its an issue that quickly becomes unremarkable. Music and sound design is also excellent.

The story feels like a fun action romp, filled with campy 80's stereotypes, but definitly keeps itself grounded and manages to deliver high stakes and tense drama between the leads. Engaging dialogue and fun banter, and the voice actors did standout performances in my opinion. Its cartoonish villain is forgettable, but in the end this is just a side event in the major racoon city story, not quite a follow up to 2 storywise.

Despite the visuals, sound and story being great to excellent, this is a series that is played for the gameplay first, and it delivers on that front. There is a small variety of weapons to use, but each have very unique strenghts and are so so satisfying to use. Ammo conservation is not so much important, but the exploration side of the game is satisfying as you find weapon upgrades and more inventory space. It feels like you are exploring a real city in the first half, and the later levels also have satisfying level design, even if the locations might be a bit smaller (or not nearly as dense)than i would have liked. No level reaches the heights of the RPD when it comes to level design, but because of the increased focus on action this is also a much lesses issue.
The game feels much more action packed than the previous, but its on the harder difficulties that it shines because it demands a tight management of inventory. The dodge action is a great addition to the series, and really encourage on the harder difficulties.

Boss fights are generally speaking decent to lackluster, with the nemesis taking way too many hits to go down, or at least to react to damage. You could have kept the same enormous health pool if he got gored up as the fight went alone, but alas its not the case. The last boss in particular is very frustrating on harder difficulties.

Finally after the first playthrough the game offers a lot of replayability in different difficulties as well as challenges. There is a shop where you can trade points for OP items, and this once again increases replayability as well as adjusting the level of difficulty to what the player feels capable.

Overal i had a blast with this game, completed it multiple times, and whenever i finish a playthrough my motivation is to start another right after. Its unfair to compare it to RE2Remake because its trying to be a different experience, though on the whole it does lack the level of polish of its predecessor.

Even as someone who never played the original you can really feel how painful the removal of the Clocktower is. Played this in one sitting and though the Hospital section was enjoyable, most of the rest is super tedious and two-dimensional on account of the lack of puzzles and the mediocre blending of action into RE2R gameplay. You may as well play either RE2 or RE4 rather than this muddled crap, which is a shame as if it hadn't been rushed they could be a legendary remake trilogy

I can't stress enough just how much I hate what they did with Nemesis here. Mr. X who is only in RE2 for like an hour outside his boss fight felt more threatening than Nemesis. That's not supposed to happen.

actually really enjoyed this as a middle ground between re2make and re4make. feels much less like it's own thing and like more of a stepping stone, but considering i got it for cheap on sale: that's fine with me!

The gameplay is great, unfortunately the lackluster levels make it very underwhelming. A great example of wasted potential.

I think the rating is way too high for this
this game is the definition of mediocrity

I also think it's funny how the game introduces new enemies then immediately forgets about them and just throws regular zombies at you
