When the nefarious Mr. Dark steals the Great Protoon, the Electoons that hover around it become helpless, allowing the villain's forces to capture and hide them throughout the world. With no one else to turn to, the ever optimistic Rayman steps up as the hero to save the Electoons and rid the land of Mr. Dark's heinous henchmen.
I loved this game as a kid, it was one of the first PS1 games I owned. As a kid I never could really get past the first World, but then a few years later when I was a little older, maybe around 10, I ended up getting past the first World and beating the game. I beat it a few times, and it was one of my favorite platformers, I enjoyed the World design, I liked the mechanics, and I thought Mr. Dark was one of the coolest villains. But looking back the game did have some glaring flaws, it was pretty hard and you had to be very precise at times or you'd die instantly, there were some cheaply designed levels and bosses that relied on trial and error, and the story itself is pretty generic. But like I said before, the game is a solid enough platformer with some decent level design and the bosses that aren't cheap are pretty fun. And if you can get over the difficulty, the game is good for at least a playthrough.

This was the first game I ever played, at least getting really into. Together with my little sister we almost got 100% on the game, only missing a few cages. I guess it was quite a feat considering how young we were. It was on a Windows 95 computer by the way.
Yeah it's tough as nails, but the NES Mario games are more even more unforgiving than this and people don't (always) complain so much about those. This us one of the best and most creative platformer ever made and is still a ton of fun. Pitiful rating here.
In order to play this game you have to metabolize its internal "flow" and/or clock mechanism, you have to perform very specific movements in the right time frame, it's almost like Classical Ballet in that aspect. A wonderful 2D game, albeit I feel it sowed my preference for ultra-hard games, tough.
