Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty

Very short game, much less focused on combat and more on the puzzles. Introduces some interesting mechanics like the new wrench mechanic. Overall, worth playing once for the story but not for much after that.

Quest for Booty é bem diferente do restante da série: maior foco em puzzles e plataforma, duração curta e design de fase aberto são alguns dos elementos que mais destoam da ação caótica característica dos outros jogos.

Enquanto obra menor para atrair os jogadores à sequência, Quest for Booty entrega o que precisa, é divertido enquanto dura e quando começa a ficar repetitivo, acaba.

Quest for Booty is kind of a weird game to rate because of it's by-design short length, but I think that as a game it hits pretty much every note that it needed to. The puzzles and platforming are all really fun and Insomniac picked out a decent selection of ToD weapons to bring back for their bridge adventure between the main two Future titles.

Storywise QfB doesn't really give us a whole lot and what little it did was a lot more interesting in 2008 than it is now. That being said, I don't think that there's nothing here. The writing is sharp and funny, Rusty Pete's narration/general presence is good, and the robot ghost pirate theme of the whole thing is a lot of fun. QfB is also the last time we get to see Talwyn in a video game until Into the Nexus in 2013.

The lack of any real replay value is definitely the biggest negative for QfB when its compared to other Ratchet & Clank fare though. There's no Challenge Mode and no real reason for a Challenge Mode, as there is no backtracking and the only optional collectibles come in the form of Weapon Mods. It's nice that any R&C content came out at all in 2008, the same release year as Insomniac's Resistance 2, but all the same it would have been nice to see some extra goodies and a Challenge Mode tucked away into this adventure.

As one of the first true attempts at the downloadable stand-alone side story, Quest For Booty is way better than something like Alan Wake's American Nightmare, and the huge emphasis on puzzle solving isn't too far divorced from what fans would come to expect from the series. But it is divorced enough from their expectations that it begins to drag, even as brief as the adventure is, with only one big shootout at the very end. Know that before diving in and you should still have a good time.
