Still feels like quake but in a real bad engine, poor netcode and live service model. It being a hero shooter sucked, but later I love the fact they pushed towards giving characters unique movement. Grenade Launcher being gone is a sin.
I mean I've played hundreds of hours of Quake 3 in my teens, and I've been coming back to this game every August for the Quakecon season and I always have a blast and don't get the hate. It still has a lot of what made Quake 3 great and puts enough of its own spin on it to feel fresh. I'm also impressed by how completely uninvasive and fair the free-to-play model in this game feels. I've felt absolutely zero pressure to put any money into the game and honestly don't even know how they keep the game running.
I've had basically no interest in multiplayer games at all anymore for years now, but this is the one exception that I do come back to every now and then when I get an itch for it and don't feel like booting up Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament.
Yep, highly underrated honestly. Movement is stellar with all the different champs, great gunplay, and still retains the high skill ceiling of the old quakes since Time Limit Duel was added.
When the game actually lets you play it, it's great, but everything about it, from menus, loading times, all the crashing and memory leakage, it all seems to actively be trying to push you away. Great job Tim Willits, you've really done it this time, you killed Quake.
