After receiving a letter from a man claiming to be Luke Triton from 10 years in the future, Professor Layton and Luke embark on a journey to save Future London from calamity and uncover the mysteries surrounding the new world they find themselves in.
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future trumps the previous two Professor Layton games in every single way. It is truly the best one I played yet and I doubt Last Specter can overthrow this masterpiece
Taking place after the events of Curious Village and Diabolical Box, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future follows Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice, Luke traveling through time to rescue the Prime Minister of London while running into familiar faces from both the past and future. Time travel-themed stories can be very complicated. But this narrative is told masterfully and is the most personal and emotionally driven the series has ever been which had me too engaged for my own good.
This game increases the number of puzzles to 153 Story Puzzles and 15 bonus puzzles. Making it 168 puzzles. Once again, the picarat and hint coin system applies here the same as it always has but there are new ways to find these coins and puzzles such as poking around a bush or river. The variety of puzzles is absolutely spectacular. My main issue with the previous games was the fact that there were many puzzles that were repeated but just with an upped difficulty. Which is fine. But the issue was just how many there were. With Unwound Future, every puzzle in the game is unique with only a few being a repeat. So each puzzle is now super interesting and fun to solve. They even introduced Puzzle Battles which are basically self-explanatory. Once again, I solved every single puzzle.
The music is better than it has ever been and the cutscenes and animation are really good and never felt out of place. The twists and turns in the narrative had me glued the whole time and I loved the setting of future London. It was very fun to explore. This game is way too good for its own sake
Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is the best one in the series yet. With amazingly designed puzzles, great music, animation, story, and an ending that actually made me cry, this game is among the best DS games I have ever played

I really need to play these games again. I was in elementary school, and my peanut brain couldn't do the puzzles.

People actually like this for the plot? The entire setting stopped making sense after the first game when they had to retcon the reason why everyone is spouting off puzzles, but this is where the franchise truly jumped the shark. Incredibly stupid shyamalan twist that creates a billion plot holes in retrospect.
