It's Kanto so it's aged like milk, but since it's not RBY, it's aged like milk sitting in the fridge for 2 weeks past its expiration date rather than milk left out in the sun for 2 weeks.
cannot fathom anyone preferring gen 1 kanto over this lmfao. red and blue are near unplayable as balanced RPGs, they're only fun if ur exploiting the glitches
I think I would recommend the original RBY to someone who is really interested in playing GSC, simply because playing Kanto before Johto usually furthers your enjoyment of both regions even more. Or, for anybody who is just a fan of the GameBoy aesthetic and soundfont. They're dated games and I would recommend FRLG for younger players just getting into the series, but I wouldn't consider RBY obsolete or remotely unfun.
I'll never understand the Kanto hate other than maybe envy that it gets featured a lot in newer games rather than the later regions. Kanto has a lot of charm and plenty of optional content that makes what's otherwise a linear game feel open.
This is still the #1 game I would recommend to new players, it's accessible, simple and it serves as a perfect introduction to the series while also being the perfect primer to get into HGSS. And the GBA sprite and environment art has aged very gracefully.
This is solid but I wish Kanto got a better remake. The mon availability is still not very interesting, Sevii islands aren’t that interesting and it has the stupid evolution/trade limitations
Aside from the latter it’s not like it did anything wrong and I think it has a really nice style. It’s just nothing outstanding as a remake either, it doesn’t really expand postgame or shake up availability so you can play through with new stuff

has all pre-3D regions and the gameplay is just nuts, i have 400 hours put into it and i still come back for more.
